Landing Gear Jacks - Solved
Just recently purchased a 2005 2950RK so took it to the local park for the weekend to try it out. Everything worked well until I was unhooking at home and noticed the left side jack was not extending. It appears the shaft has twisted off in the jack tube. This lets the gearbox shake around but the right jack still went down and used a bottle jack on the left side. Appears to be holding but wondering if I should block up the right side too. I don't think I did anything wrong to break the shaft, didn't blow any fuses or overwork the motor when retracting the jack at the park. Has anyone else had this happen? Think Keystone will fix it? Thanks

There is a cotter pin for the left side leg if that is broken or fell out it will not allow the leg to extend or retract check it out.

I do not trust bottle jacks to hold on their own. Put a jack stand or blockage under it to be safe. Good luck.

Right or left depends on which side you are viewing from. I'm assuming you mean the curb side. In St. Mary, MT (miles from nothing), my curb side leg would not extend. It turns out the pin (which is really a nut and bolt) that holds the square shaft onto the gearbox came loose and fell out. I had a nut and bolt of a smaller size that I tried and it is working. I'll replace it with the proper size soon.

I think it is a 1 1/2" (Long) cap screw and castle nut, I had to help one of the members with a broken bolt here in Branson, I used a screw that fit loosly, then taped it in with electrical tape until he could get another. (Got him unhooked)
Someone here has a picture of it, I may have on in Ozz's mod's.

Update: Called Keystone, they had me call Lippert; Lippert has a gear/shaft rebuild kit for $25.38+frt so guess it's not too bad. The guy warned me not to keep the motor running after the jacks were fully retracted as that can cause the shaft or gears to fail. If I did it was only a second or two; maybe the jack was overstressed by the previous owner. Oh well, was just lucky it happened at home. It is on the drivers side, the short shaft from the gear box to the jack. New parts and some time should make it like new. Thanks for your ideas.

A second or two won't likely hurt it. Most of us have done that on occasion. What you want to avoid is retracting until you hear the ratcheting. That's what will do the damage over time. It's best to watch the leg. You can see when it will be fully retracted. Also, I usually stop ours so it is down a quarter to half an inch. I've seen some who leave it down farther than that.

Thats why most places paint the bottom of the legs black, that way you just bring them to the black and stop, no guess work that way.
