I never could see me with a foo foo dog either. I have always had Mastiffs or Rotties or the smallest being a Lab. But now that I have the miniature poodles and also had a Shih Tzu, I have discovered one thing. My dogs of the past all made BIG poopies, my current poodles make little tiny poopies. Traveling and cleaning up after your dog is not a real big deal with them. Believe me it's a lot nicer .... lol lol lol

We travel with a rescued Papillon, butterfly in french. They do shed a little but never need grooming and don't smell. Ours is larger than norm at 10 lbs, the average is about 6-7 lbs. So they make great lap dogs, and that is where our can be found most of the time. Our's is a great traveling dog and curl up between us in the truck for hours and never move.

Good point. I thought about that when we were in New Mexico a few weeks ago, since I could have rescued a couple for sure.

We had a Sheltie a few yrs back (before we started RVing) and had to put her down after 17 yrs. My wife said never again. Less than a year later we got a Chocolate Lab cross. Mother a pure bred Lab, father a super dog, able to leap tall fences.
She is a great lap dog, although at 60#, you need a big lap. Sheds a lot though. Travels well as long as she is close to us. Long walks are a must to keep the energy level down.
She is a great friend and companion but we do have to plan our days around her needs which can be a bit limiting when on the road.

Check out a retired greyhound. They are not high maintenance, shed very little, and will enjoy the retirement as much as you. Since they have been kenneled, they are very clean, and know what to do when let outside.

Greyhounds are awesome, and I would adopt one in a heartbeat but I have an indoor cat, an outdoor cat and wild bunnies, groundhogs and other little critters. Greyhounds instinctively chase little critters. We also have 3 1/2 acres that are fenced on 3 sides. The fourth side is a creek. A smaller dog wouldn't cross the creek (well, my corgi tried once, but after I rescued her she never tried it again.)

We travel with 2 Golden Retrievers. Groom them often, but we've gotten use to being covered with fur! It's worth it for their companionship.Serendipity is that's how we ended up with our Big Sky - needed the upgrade from a 26' travel trailer.

We now travel with two rescue Siberians that some of you met in Seven Feathers and at Don's memorial this year. Quiet, well mannered, shed like crazy, and love cats (barbecued). Need lots of exercise and a big truck. Siberians and Shih Tzus are one reason the truck is big (the sleeper is not for the driver). Furnishings in the trailer are dog friendly, too.

We love big dogs so we travel with a 110 lb German Shepherd, the most gentle dog that we have ever been lucky to have. Only barks when someone comes to the door, is friendly to everyone as long as we are around, but certainly is protective if he needs to be. Yes he sheds, but it's worth it.

Golden Doodles are available in three different sizes. Very calm, great travelers. My brother-in-law and sister-in-law have a full size and their daughter just got a medium sized one. Similar to the Labradoodle, but more of a golden retriever personality. As a Labrador owner, this is probably heresy, but I have a Lab for hunting.

We travel with 2 doggies, a Jack Russell and a Jack Russell / Shih Tzu mix both are rescued, both shed, both will bark a little, both are awesome! We have multiple sticky rollers all over the camper to keep up with dog hair, Sams sometimes carries these huge ones. We love our girls so much and cant imagine not having them with us, we lost our 14 year old Chihuahua last fall and having the other girls with us really helped ease the pain. Oh and surprisingly enough, both are very calm inside the camper and once in the truck they go to sleep instantly. The only problem is the Jack Russell does not want to be inside when I am outside. I had to install a piece of Plexi glass over the bottom of the screen door to keep her from tearing the screen but hey, no worries.

We're with Dick, we're traveling with 4 cats, all Pure Bred American Shorthairs that don't have to be taken for walks or out at some un-Godly hour in the AM. There guys have seen more of this Country than many people. Several only know the camper as home.

We have the Cat, bird and goldfish....

Here is what I did with the hamper from the closet in the new rig...made it into the Tabby hut and acts as a bird perch as well...

http://s962.photobucket.com/user/myb...ry/Tabby%20Hut

And yes, bird, cat and fish all get along....although they all get jealous when you speak to or play with the other....

We have 2 Ultimate Doodles (one parent was a labradoodle and one parent was a golden doodle). They are absolutely the best travelers. No shedding, very friendly, love kids, smart and well behaved (most of the time).
