Rolling up a Wet Awning Concerns?
In Wash State its not an easy task making sure the awning is nice and dry when rolling it up after a getaway and my storage isn't wide enough to leave it open upon return. I worry-Should I???

It rains in the winter in North Idaho and all of our awnings seemed to be just fine.

It will help for sun damage but it will still get water in it.

Jay,
Everything I have read states to put the awning out as soon as possible to let it dry. This is to keep it from getting mold. I'm wondering if there is a way to drop the arms and pull it down so it would hang down the side. (Just thinking out loud.)

We live in the "Evergreen State" too, and have put our awning away wet several times on this and other rigs. I always try to put it out again to let it dry when the weather cooperates. You might get some mold growth, but it shouldn't be damaging. On a note, my neighbor has a 5th wheel and his awning looked terrible this year when he u-rolled it. He used "30 Second Outdoor Cleaner" on it and it looks brand new! He applied it using a 1 gallon garden sprayer, rolled it up and let it sit for a while, then brushed it with the brush he uses to wash his rig with and rinsed with a garden hose. I couldn't believe the difference! It looked brand new. I would be cautious of getting excess amounts of the solution on the rig.....I don't know if it would discolor or damage it in any way.

I've tried running it out to dry but it still gets water inside during rains even when rolled up. We do get some mildew on the fabric. I've used a bleach/water mix to some small degree of success but have never been able to fully restore the fabric.
Some awnings come with a "rain guard" that supposedly keeps water from getting inside a rolled up awning. Anyone know whether they really work? I'm not sure if they're available to retrofit or not.

Three years in the rain of Western Wash and no problems...but then we don't use the awning that much because when we have sun we like to be in it. When you don't get that much sun you like it when you get it.

Ha-ha-ha! Here in the NW, the awning is usually deployed so that there is somewhere dry to sit while you're outside!

I can say this from experience. Here in the Northwest, the awning collects water when closed. Dont make the mistake of standing in front of the awning when you open it. That is unless you want a free shower!
