"Hot" wheels
We have a 2018 3811 that we bought used last year--after taking a short trip I was washing mud off the tires when I noticed steam coming off one wheel. I had all the bearing changed from a mobil rv company because he said if you are going to change one you should really do all four so they wear evenly. We found metal shaving in the one that was hot. Today after going to a camp ground just 30 miles away I was washing mud off again and---the wheels are throwing off steam again?? I wonder if this is a normal thing??? Thanks Dick and Deb Gutierrez

Not normal, on mine a trip of about a hundred miles the hubs are warm bur I can hold my hand on them after stopping.

I've never heard of needing to change all bearings if you are changing one unless you are doing a bearing upgrade such as Timken's. If you have 6pt leveling then I would jack the rv up and see just how freely the wheels turn. It could be bearings are to tight or the brake's are sticking. Some Tech's think you need to snug the bearings down which you do to seat the bearing but then don't slightly back off the bearing so you have a slight drag. I would pull all 4 wheels and check the brakes and bearings. Nothing like having to go behind someone you paid good money to.

I'll go with Texan too. One thing for sure I wouldn't go back to that mobile tech, sounds like he was seeing $, instead of respectful , capable service.

If its all four wheels, I would check the bearings. If its just one wheel, its probably a dragging brake.

I would think if 30 miles was cooking a bearing like that there would be a lot more damage than just steam. I definitely would be looking at the brakes. Good Luck!

What was the temp outside when you were washing it off? If really cold that might be the answer.

Problem could be a dragging brake shoe/pad. I've seen reports of brand new units burn to the ground due to hot brakes.

I’m surprised that a 2018 unit would need new bearings. However, if the tech overtightened one bearing, I’m betting he overtightened them all. If a brake was dragging he should have seen that when he pulled or tried to pull the hub, unless he just changed the outside bearings without changing the races. Big no no. Regardless, I’d make sure he doesn’t touch your RV again.

What everyone else said, and get and use a temp gun to check your tires, brakes and bearings at every stop.

Check the brakes. I had a smoking wheel on my 2019 3120 last July caused by a failed brake. Thankfully I was flagged over by a passing motorist. It was very hot. The brake parts fell to the ground when I pull the wheel off!

My last trailer I had the dealer repack the bearings because I tow more then the average RVer plus a state inspection.
To make a long story short, I paid $315.00 for the work. When I hookup to go on the road the trailer had no brakes. I dropped it and when home. Two weeks later it had enough brake to get home.
When I got back to my shop I pulled a wheel and there wasn’t enough grease in it for the 7 mile trip to my house let alone California.
I repacked all the bearing , replaced all the old seals taking pictures along the way. I had to take them to small claims court to get my money back but I did.
The moral here is, dealers lie. If you can’t see them doing it then they didn’t do it.
Just my thoughts.

The sad part is they think everyone else in the world are dopes. I have more years turning wrenches then their whole maintenance staff added together. And they still told me they know better. The judge didn’t think so.

all good advise,
I would learn to do this maintenance my self. brakes, bearing and suspension inspection. save a lot of headaches, time and money. that way you know its done right and what to look for before things go wrong. I know this doesn't help right now and sorry for your issues. YouTube is your friend when it comes to RVs.
