Bill ... When we were in the area last Spring, we drove through the River Plantation park ... looked very nice from what we could see. Can't really give you any idea on site size or any other details though. Steve wanted me to point out that they do have Wi-Fi. The downside, from our point-of-view, is that turning left into and/or out of the park will be a real challenge ... lots of traffic. That might all be different now though. It also sits far enough back from the road that traffic noise shouldn't be an issue. Also, a Walmart Supercenter is very convenient to that park.
Hope you'll get into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park while you're there ...

Stayed there few times has everything you need, but we like KOA Pigeon Forge better it's about a mile from DollyWood. If you go there get one of the supersites VIP they call them they are nice.

Have stayed at River Plantation and really enjoyed it. It can be a little hard to get into or out of, depending on time of day, but I think that goes for any where in the area. I thought the sites were good size, have alot of pull thorughs, and was very clean. We like the sites in the back on the creek.

I recently stayed at the RIVERBEND Campground (#1 stoplight in Pigeon Forge, www.riverbendcampground.com). Plenty of 50 amp sites with full hookups. It is a very clean and quiet campground with easy (as easy as anything is in the overcrowded Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area) access to the surrounding area. They DO NOT take credit cards, so be prepared to pay cash. Not taking credit cards also lead to a very interesting reservation policy... if you call and say you are coming, they trust you. I know I am going back.

Gail and Bill, I know you're not looking for a monthly site but that's what we were looking for when we visited River Plantation. They told us their monthly sites are booked for four years. That says something to me about the park.
If you plan to do Dollywood and other shows in Pigeon Forge, then PF is probably most convenient for you. We were there more to visit the national park so found Twin Creek RV Resort in nearby Gatlinburg a very nice place to stay and far more quiet, the traffic far more to our liking, and the town much nicer to visit (other than not many shows there). As I said, if the attractions you want are in PF, then PF would be the better place for you to stay. In any case, hope you enjoy the visit.

... Sure do appreciate the info from everyone.... we don't do a lot of long distance stuff cause we live 38 miles from Buggs Island lake and we also have a boat so we do a lot of camping in Rudds Creek or one of the other 3 parks on the lakes... plenty of fishing and boating and just plain good ole' camping out and my job allows me a 4 day weekend every week so what can I say!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But we are going to go to DollyWood in October (cause that's what the boss told me!)

We visit Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg quite often. Our favorite cg is River Plantation with Twin Creeks coming in second. The river sites at River Plantation are large, and very nice. Be aware, the traffic is horrendous. If you have a gps, use it, and avoid the main throughfare through PF.
