Slides in or Out

Hello everyone. We will be leaving our full time rig for 12 days to take a trip to Colorado. Free house to stay in when we get there. No need to drag the house with us for this trip. When we leave should we leave the slides in or out? We will leave with AC's running and the thermostats set on 82 degrees. We live in Burleson, Texas where temps have been between 98 to 105. We've left it once with slides out but wondered if it would be easier on the AC's to leave the slides in? NOT sure if it's safe to leave slides in with AC's running for that many days. Your help with this decision is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your replies.

I think you could do it ether way but with the slides in you have less space to cool also with the slides in you have less roof foe the hot Texas to beat on.

Either option would work. Personally I would close up the rig and not run AC. I don't like our rig hooked up with converter and appliances operating for that long without being there. Just my luck something electrical would bite me.

Doug,

Concur with Mike, why invite a problem by running unneeded a/c for 12 days?

While I can somewhat understand the concerns above, we have never shut off power to our house when on trips, sometimes up to 3 weeks. Cool house to return to. And no concern about fridge being able to maintain temp.

As long as the slides in do not impede air flow I would pull them in.

Understood. Of course any decent house would have been built against strict construction codes using quality materials.

Why allow the heat and humidity to reck havoc on the inside of your rig if you don't have to. Heat and humidity will damage the cabinets, furniture and fixtures. May be unseen for a while but it is doing it and will shorten its life.

I live in Arizona where it tends to get HOT but with little humidity. Even so I leave the AC on when it is stored in its barn. Set to 85 with the slides out.

Just how I do it.

Second the thought if the slides do not impair cold air or return air flow, I would bring in slides and the the AC run.

12 days in the life of your coach won't matter no matter what you do. As has been said you would be cooling less square footage if slides are in and if you had a storm you would have a better chance of a leak with slides out than in. And i would certainly want to be there if i had a leak than 1,000 miles away.

Many folks in our Florida park leave their rigs parked to the Florida heat/humidity for seven months during the summer. They put charcoal etc in for the humidity and block the windows. Same for the park models. Unless a leak occurred, very few issues. We

For anything more than a week for our stick built home we turn air to 80, turn hot water heater off and go for it.Also turn the washer off and both toilets. The way these trailers are built I would cautious about leaving the trailer completely hooked up for 2 weeks without someone checking on it once in a while.

slides in. ac on. set to 85F.

less area to cool, less area for the sun to heat up. and with the ac on,fan low. it will help with cutting down the humidity.

and just the heat build up can hurt some things.

Slides in. Less Sq. Ft. To cool. Slides in, less Sq. Ft. for the sun to heat. Slides in, less Sq. Ft. of roof to get dirty. Never put the slides out if they are unneeded. Set the cooling system to 90 degrees. Turn off EVERTHING else.
