CTR350 EVDO Router: TINY but not perfect

Many RVers are going to be talking about a new EVDO router called the CradlePoint CTR350... its very small size will be a major attraction since it will take up MUCH LESS space that any other router solution sold by 3gstore.

There are at least three 'gotchas' that RVers should be aware of with the 'CradlePoint Travel Router'.

The first is that (so far) it only works with USB or ExpressCard devices... NO PCMCIA cards (like KPC650 or AirCard 595).

Second, it does not allow computers to connect via ethernet cable. It ONLY allows WiFi connections.

Third, it only has an internal WiFi antenna, which means whatever WiFi range it has, thats all you can get, you can't get no more.

I wrote a full review of the CTR350 complete with pictures that show its tiny size. You'll find my review on EVDOinfo.com

For those of you familiar with the Kyocera KR1 router, here's a picture that shows the CradlePoint CTR350 sitting on top of a KR1, to show relative sizes:

trukdoc, When I called 3G back in June, the Phoebus is what they recommended for me and that is the one I got. Got the Verizon service and it works great. We have a desktop that is hardwired with ethernet cable to the Phoebus and I have a laptop with wifi that is security enabled for obvious reasons. I recently had my niece next to me in a park and she couldn't get her wifi working so I gave her my password and she was able to get on my network and she loved me for it. I vote for the Phoebus from 3G......

Thanks PPARAMORE, I am using ATT/Cingular with a Sierra 875 HSPDA PCMIA Aircard. From what I read the KR1 will not work for me because it does not support the GSM network.

You're right, the KR1 will not. But at least 3 different routers will. there is an ATT router from Linksys, works ONLY with the card you have. And two routers by topglobal that work with your card, and others from ATT. one of the topglobals is the phoebus mb6000 and the other is the newer/more expensive mb6800.

I don't want to post direct links on this thread, for fear it comes across as a blatant ad. contact me in private if you want links?
