Replaced with a valve but it does not drain as fast as the cap.

Depending on the valve it may have reduced the opening dimension a bit. But unless you're in a hurry the difference should be small. After losing the caps a couple times on a previous rig I liked the valves. Just open and walk or drive away.

Here is the valve I added for the ice maker drain that is way under the rig. The valve is just a Shark Bite shut off for sink with 3/8 compression outlet and I left the nut off.

Certainly much better than crawling under the rig to drain the ice maker. Only issue I see is that it takes 2 hands to turn the valve to open it since the whole valve will spin while trying to open it with one hand. Mine did the same thing until I strapped the valve itself to the camper.

Ahhhh, You just set my next project.
BTW, the only time you really need to drain this line is when it is going below freezing so you really don't want to crawl under then.

Speaking of freshwater drain hose freezing in cold weather...
We will be traveling next week. Daytime towing temps will be fine but night time camping temps will be around freezing. I do not plan on draining my freshwater tank during this trip.
Apart from adding pipe insulation to the drain hose, is there any concerns with it freezing overnight? We will have FHU. I intend to run the tank heaters. I have been thinking of using a battery warmer taped around it for overnight stops, or is this necessary?
2. While on the subject, is it necessary to use a battery heater in the winter on the house battery?

I would not worry to much at 28-32 for several hours. If its going to get to the low 20,s the drain may freeze up a little.
A charged battery will not freeze.

Traveling and camping in sub-freezing temps has not caused me any issues. If the drain pipe did freeze (probably did) it did not cause any issues.
Using the central heater and tank warmers kept the on-board water liquid and a heated water hose kept the supply line flowing.
What Beeje said is correct.
Plus, think about electricity constantly flowing, (in and/or out) causing heat.
Hope this helps,
