Amp Meter Installation?
I would like to install twin 50 amp, digital, AC ammeters using, I assume, CT donuts. I've searched the web and can't find any reasonable prices.
Has anyone installed LED meters to monitor both legs of service?
I know, Progressive has the neat meter but we already have a SurgeGuard.
Thanks in advance,

The Progressive 50 amp hard wired unit has built in amp measurement for each leg. Maybe you could just put your existing surge protector up for sale and get that one. The whole deal might actually save you some money.

You have me thinking along the seem lines now. We use a meter at work, I think it's a Red Line that might do the job. I'll check it out when I get back later this week. Let you know then.

I ordered two of these: AC Meters
After I install them, I'll let everyone know the results.
Thanks for the replies.

I'm still wondering...(and maybe just way off base/clueless to your point)...your gonna use them to watch current draw on each phase. This is dependent on when your aware. I'm thinking spend your money on a clamp on portable as its just something you want to check every now and then or when your experiencing issues?
I carry... in top of my toolbox
DVM - Fluke 23III Multimeter -> http://www.colorado.edu/physics/phys...cs/Fluke77.pdf
IR Thermometer - http://download.sears.com/own/03450466e.pdf
Yokogawa Model 300 - http://www.yokogawa.com/rd/pdf/TR/rd-tr-r00031-008.pdf
These allow me to check many things beyond an isolated static install location as well as my stick home or others...

Michael, can the coils be seperated from the meter and remotely mounted, or will you have to run the wire up to the meter/coil?

I also carry a Fluke DVM, along with a Fluke clamp on ammeter and also I find handy my dual channel Fluke digital temp meter, for spot checks of fridge / freezer.
Troubleshooting many electrical problems, as well as double checking new installs, fuses, batteries, cable integrity, ect. make at least a good quality DVM on board a necessity.
I find I reach for my meters frequently - would be lost without them on many occasions.
We have a little SOB in addition to our Mountaineer - the "fishing trailer". So, it is better to keep instrumentation at hand in the TV.

The CT donuts can be up to 30' away according to owner of company.
I'll look into the Fluke meters as well. Thanks

Then they sound like exactly what you were after! Nice that you can mount them just about anywhere in the trailer you want.
