A/C vent

Just wondering if it is possible to install the old kind of a/c vent directly under the unit. I have opened up the collapsed vents and still doesn't cool very well. My sister and brother in law have older different brand that has the choice for vent mode or directly out it works better on direct mode.

Probably not. Directly under the unit is the return air and some have added extra return air under there. You can, however, open your supply vents by cutting some or all of the fins off (if you remove every other fin no one will notice and it makes a huge difference) them and while your doing that remove the mounting pipe and shorten it so it doesn't partually block the ducts. Some have also added more supply vents.

You can purchase vents with less fins that open and close. It helped us a lot.
