I joined the CPAP Club also. Does anyone pass the sleep test?

Captain Joe,

I think that at $3000 a pop, NO ONE passes the sleep test.

Brad,
Why would the $3k have anything to do with passing the test? Just curious. Dennis

Dennis,
They want you to get your money's worth, and stay in business. If no one needed the machines there would be no great need for the service.

WayneM,
OK. So I just finished doing $2500 chemical heart stress test........ So at that amount of money you'd say that I for sure had a bad heart! Right? So the doctor tells me that everything is great with my heart! No damage, no blockage etc.. So by using your reasoning I just got swindled out of $2500! They should have found something seriously wrong but they didn't. That would be following your logic. Guess I'd better change labs!

Naw! They CPAP testers probably referred people to the Cardiologist and got some kick back, so they'll stay in business for sure now.

I had the Chemical Stress test also. I was also given an Ultrasound. Those were negative. But, in preparing for back surgery, they discovered the Sleep Apnea and COPD to go along with the Neuropathy that surfaced two years ago. Oh well, I guess I adapt.....So far, the Back Surgery went very well.

Some in the health care field had implied that Sleep Apnea and CPAP machines are a revenue generator. Don't know who to believe. But, since I am still here.....I will wear the Darth Vader mask.

We have no 12v outlet in the bedroom and no 120v outlet near my side of the bed(towards the rear of the trailer) and I didn't want extension cords. Fortunately my machine will run on 12v so I ran a dedicated line over into the driver side propane compartment and installed an outlet in the floor next to the bed. I could have run it under the bed and installed the outlet in the side of the bed. The next problem was where to put the darned thing. I went to Home Depot and purchased a prefinished shelf and cut it to length. I fastened the shelf to the side of the bed with some piano hinge and used a support hinge from Home Depot to hold the shelf up, and when if I want to lower the shelf the support folds right up. The side of the bed is not very sturdy but it's fine for this.

Good job! Using your head there.
Hey you have room for a holster on the side of that shelf...

Been using a CPAP since Jan of '94 with the nasal cannulas. The mask made me claustrophobic. When I started using it, there was no such thing as a humidity tank or a heater. Now I only use the water tank, but in the winter, I'll use the heater some. The heater won't run on 12 volt so I plug a small inverter into the 12 volt TV antenna and run the 110 volt wire thru the closet to the CPAP, which sets on the closet shelf. I could just use the main house inverter, but found the smaller inverter uses less amps to just run the CPAP and by using the smaller inverter, it gives the whole house inverter time to rest at night.

The machines we have now days are super quiet compared to those first machines, but being in the closet, we can't even hear it run. The first CPAP machines sounded like a small air compressor running all night, but my wife said it was quieter than my snoring.

Oh, and Ozz, holsters on both sides of the bed. My side has my 1911 45 auto and Carols side has her Pink 1911 45 auto. You don't come into our Monty unannounced at night.

I would use 12 volt cigarette extension cable found at most automative stores which are up to 20 ft long and plug it into the TV connection in the bedroom when you go to bed and roll it up when you get up as a short term fix until you figure it out. If it would seldom be used, I would make this teh permanent solution.

If I remember correctly, most CPAP machines draw too many amps for the size wire used in those extension cords. Better off using an inverter or a lot heavier wire than those cords provide. CPAP machines are too expensive to mess around with supplying low voltage. With 12 volt, bigger wire = better voltage.

My Cpap with humidifier draws 5 amps, may be too much for 20' of tiny wire?

I plug my CPAP into the 12v outlet in the washer dryer closet in my 2013 343RL HC.

My CPAP is a Resmed, and I purchased the 12v power adapter for it. The cord from the outlet to the transformer and then the cord from the transformer to the Resmed is long enough to sit on a box I have next to the head end of the bed.

Resmed says one should NOT use the humidifier with the 12v power adapter.

I'm currently six weeks into a nine week cross-country adventure and have had to use the 12v set-up only a few times, but it works perfectly.

I have a Respironics and I can use the humidifier with the 12v adapter, in fact I use that all the time. I figure that way if there is a power outage it won't affect me.
