Large Slide Floor

Someone sat on the chair at our table and as they sat down we heard a cracking sound. The floor is quite spongy now has anyone had this happen. The insurance company says it was under built and will not repair it.

You might pull the carpet back and check the floor underneath. We had a leak in our 3295 and didn’t realize it was leaking until I finally looked under the carpet. It was always soft and it had leaked between the walls and ran out under the carpet. I should have noticed it long before I did but I ignored the signs. One of the signs was that someone had drilled 2 holes through the floor, presumably to allow the water to escape. Hope it turns out ok for you. Sometimes the floor feels a little weak and it does have a little give to it. However, with the cracking sound it sounds like it might be dry underneath.

Our Big Sky 340 RLQ came from the factory like that, their fix was to move the couch and chairs off the carpet and they slid a sheet of 5/8 plywood under the carpet and that fixed it. Not sure why the floor had so much flex but the new plywood did fix it. it took almost two full sheets of 5/8 to cover the entire slide floor. I had it fixed at the next rally after I found it...

Think I would appeal that to someone.Think I would have the insurance company send that decision to Keystone. That sounds like insurance company BS to me...

I would think that to say the slideout was underbuilt is a stretch. To me underbuilt reflects design, and there appears to be very very few problems of this nature with all those Montanas floating around. You indicated the floor was spongy which makes the possibility of excess moisture a contributing factor. Keystone may have well made a mistake on the production line. Worth a try with Keystone even though the unit lasted five years without cracking, which will be their likely defense. Best of luck with them, often they will surprise you.

You might try calling your State Insurance Commissioner. They can advise you on what to do next. They're very helpful. Then you can get back with your insurance company and will most likely get it resolved.

When we got our 2007 Montana 3400RL I noticed right away that the floor was spongy. Brought it up to the dealer and he said all of them were like that. Another lesson learned for me. Should have pursued it further.

Not sure what is meant by a spongy floor. Now if you jump up and down on the slide it will give a bit as it is hanging out over the main frame. We are not heavy weights..well I might could lose a lb or two but we were never able to figure out what that meant.

I tend to agree with Iretired 06 and if it is a result of water damage the insurance should cover it.

Last year, the floor in our living room slide had to be replaced because it had dropped down on one end. We had a roof leak in that slide back in 2002 and had it repaired. However there must have been enough water run down to the floor and weakened where the floor was fastened on the one end. Since repair, everything is fine. I think it cost around $1500 to repair. Had it done at my dealer's place.

Rich.......it come from the factory like this. Discovered it within the first week. Bought the unit new. Noticed it when we sat at the table. Just standing to get in the chair the floor would give.

No leaks that I ever knew of unless it happened on the lot or going to the lot from the factory.

There is no moisture on the floor. You do not have push down hard it moves quite easily. I know there is a bit of flex but this is excessive.

I recall post of that nature a few years ago about a soft floor and I recall Daves problem and fix. We checked ours out when we saw the post and yes it did give if we put pressure on it but did not feel it was..soft... never had a problem on the 06 3400. There is not much flooring under the slide and not a lot of support.
