Fireplace thermostat fix

I have a Dimplex fireplace I installed back in 2010. It works well when cleaned out once a year. One problem I have always had is that after the fireplace has reached the thermostat preset level it will turn off the fan and heater and never resume heating again after the temperature drops down 5 or more degrees. I first considered an external thermostat, but that idea didn't work out. When, out of frustration, we considered a new replacement fireplace, we noticed the lights in the base of the newer fireplace are now LEDs. Apparently, the reason the thermostat is never starting a follow on heat cycle is that the 3 candelabra bulbs are putting out 180 watts of heat, keeping the thermostat nice and warm!. The fix appeared natural as I installed three dimmable led candelabra bulbs and got the heat in the area of the thermostat down to 12 watts. Bingo, the thermostat started cycling on and off again!
