Level Up help

Pulled in & lowered front jacks & took Monty off the truck. Hit the auto level and trailer went all the way down on front jacks and would not auto level. Non-responsive in manual mode. Battery?? Suggestions would be appreciated.

Recommend hooking power to it and see if that changes anything. A generator, shore power or hooking cable back to truck with it running (be sure to keep truck clear if rig comes further down).

Is this a new Montana what year? is it power jacks or Hydraulic?

2015 3100rl with hydraulic jacks. It's hooked up to shore power and truck. Panel reads 14.3 V

The following are random thoughts, observations and suggestions.

• Voltage of 14.3 says the converter is doing its thing. But that doesn't reflect the state of the battery. I would disconnect the AC power and the truck connection. Then measure the battery voltage. A charge level of 14.3 seems pretty intense to me and might be because the battery is dead or close to it.
• I take it the keypad works since you say it displays 14.3 volts. Is there any kind of click or audible sound when you push one of the jack buttons?
  
• Try disconnecting all power sources: battery, AC and truck. This usually causes the "brain" to reset. Let it sit for a while them reconnect power and try again.
  
• The keypad can be disconnected and reset by pulling the telephone like plug on the back. But you write it still displays so I doubt that will help.
• Call Lippert Customer Service at (574) 537-8900. These guys are really good and know their stuff. I would have made this the first suggestion but they are closed for the day and you will have to wait until tomorrow.
  
• Lippert has some decent documentation on their web site for diagnosing Level-Up problems. Sometimes it is hard to find.

Currently got everything shut off. The 80amp to the pump disconnects when Auto is selected and the front jacks retract during the process.

Reconnected power. Front jacks operate in manual mode. Other jacks don't. Auto level trips the 80amp breaker.

Definitely time to call Lippert. The 80 amp braker should not be blowing.

That sounds strange. Mine freaks out and dives to the ground when I try to auto level. Worked fine for a while previously.

I gave up and level in manual mode now. Seems work better that way since I can cotroll the height of the unit and which legs go down first.

Got it loaded on the truck (front jacks working), drove about 20 miles and stopped at Matt's RV in Clinton, OK. Low and behold, while going about demonstrating the problem I was having with it, the manual and automatic leveling processes worked fine. I drove on towards Albuquerque and stopped at Tucumcari for the night - Level Up worked fine. Very weird!

Is the front end of your Monty higher than the rear when you start Auto Level? If not, strange things will happen.

The front needs to be at least 3" higher than the back when you start the auto level or it
doesn't work correctly and may not work at all.

We have the same rig a year older. Ours did something similar once in a Minnesota State Park CG last year. When I hit auto-level button, front of rig dives down to start leveling process. Problem was the site was too sloping and the front jacks could not go low enough for the auto-level to kick in. Moved to two other sites before found one level enough. Never happened again.

I find that manual mode leveling is much faster and easier than dealing with the auto mode...unless you are really liking to watch it go up and down like a low rider car, pause, do things that make no sense, and eventually get something close to level. And being an ex-electrical computer engineer I know what it is doing and why, but find it to be another piece of eye candy. Manual level mode, however, puts you in the drivers seat as the old saying goes.

Makes sense. The site that it acted up on had some front slope. Matt's RV parking lot didn't. I've set up at three different RV parks, since it malfunctioned; and it has worked just fine.

I am using manual mode with a remote. Works perfectly.

I have the electric 6 point version. It wouldn't work correctly to start with. Reestablished zero on level and it started working. HOWEVER, the stroke on the plungers is only about 12" or so total. If you are parking on an even slightly off level site you will have to use blocks on one end or the other....

I've had unresponsive hydraulic jacks AND slides. Turns out a bunch of mice had made their way into the battery area and ate through the wires than run the hydraulic jack, auto levelers and hydraulic slides. I spliced the wires back together and it worked fine. Happened again about two weeks later and I've since gone on the war path with the rodents.!

I’d suggest removing the battery cables at the battery and clean both the cable ends and battery terminal ends...

Power goes directly from battery to resettable breaker to dual polarity solenoid for hyd pump motor.. any corrosion or loose connections along this path will cause exactly what you describe
