Front Landing Leg Fuse
I have blown the 30Amp fuse and replaced with a 30 Amp automatic resetting breaker. For the last year the breaker is tripping more often when I am raising the nose. Friday I had to raise it 18 inches and it seemed to work better then the switch quit working.
I found the switch had failed. Replaced the switch and the motor is again able to raise the nose without tripping the resettable breaker. OH the darn switch is rated at 20AMPS and fused for 30AMPS. No wonder it failed.
It is my belief that the contacts on the switch were poor and caused a higher current draw tripping the resettable breaker over the last year.
So if you are finding this problem suggest you look at replacing the switch.

I don't understand why Keystone puts different size fuses in different rigs. My 07 3400RL has a 40A fuse for the landing gear. The only time it has blown was when the RV was new and I brought the gear up too far.

Also, resettable circuit breakers weaken slightly after continued tripping.

John, Thanks for the great tip. I do not have any problems with gear but would probably replace the switch before having the techs having a GO at it!!! Seems like replacing the switch would be a cheaper way of troubleshooting the problem...

The switch in my '07 3000Rk melted in Feb. It was a 20 amp switch protected with a 40 amp fuse.Butch,Ray and I replaced it with a 40 amp switch. Bill

Cross thread,
That is using your head. It is hard to understand how Montana determined a 20A switch was adequate.

Great tip John.
Bill, Concerning the 40 Amp switch. Was it the same color and size so it was a straight forward replacement or did you have to modify?
Where did you get it?
Thanks,
John

John, We got it at Beaudry Rv in Tucson. As I recall, it was a bit larger, I had to enlarge the cover plate a bit to reuse it. Bill

If I ever have trouble with my landing gear sw. I may install two heavy duty relays as I do not like that much current going thru a sw. of that type. In fact I may check now and see if there is not relays in it like the hyd. pump. Maybe worth changing anyway. Edit: Just checked and there is no relays and wiring size is not big enough for 40amp sevice in my rig. Relay surely can not add that much to cost at factory based on volume used.JMO.
