fuel tank
I have a 2015 Ford Super duty 250 Fcrew cab truck. I am trying to decide to either have a new, bigger tank installed or get an additional tank to put in the bed of the truck. It is hard to have to stop often for refueling. I would appreciate any suggestions.

I installed a 50 gallon tank in the bed of our truck...when fully loaded...carrying 87 gallons...can easily drive 900 plus miles between stops....I think I have stopped in a truck stop only once since we installed it....you will love the convenience it offers....can install yourself also...takes about 2 hours....

I had a 40 gal than installed in my 08 F250 and was able to move it to my new F350. To me that the benefit of the extra tank over replacing the original tank. But I do have a long bed truck.

Having a greater fuel capacity is all well and good, especially if you travel off the beaten path. Having to refill 80+ gallons at one time is a chunk of change. I know you will spend the same money refueling 2 or 3 times. My truck can go 400+ miles with the stock tank before refueling. Can't say the same for my bladder. I have used the RV bathroom before while travelling but would much rather use a truck stop's facilities. While I'm there why not top off my fuel.

I have a combo 60 gal/tool box. Love it gives me about 88 gals to work with. Put it in myself and bought it off craigslist for $400. Was easy to do if you are somewhat handly. Tied it to my upfitter switch in the ford with an electric pump. Throw the switch and watch the fuel guage go up then shut switch off. Also put a manual shutoff at the tank for protection

I went with a replacement tank. 50 gal versus the stock 26 gal. Did it myself on the garage floor with jack stands and a few ratchet straps. Well worth the investment. Had the Ford dealer reprogram my DTE for the bigger tank. Now I have over 400 mile range while towing which is well beyond my daily driving limit. I can now unhook at the campground and hit any station versus having to do the truck lanes. I dont have a problem with the truck lanes at truck stops other than they are notoriously messy with spilled fuel which then makes the DW complain about my stinky diesel truck!

With an F250 you also have to consider how much weight these extra gallons weigh, then realize this takes away from the weight your truck can tow or carry for other things like the heavy pin weight of a fifth wheel.
If you are one who isn't concerned about weight ratings, then I'll stop now.

I also installed a 45 gal external fuel tank love it too. it has save my hinny several times. I also have a long bed and it helps having it for space. a lot of the members use the drain into the tank with a valve but I prefer using a pump and filter to make sure I get clean fuel, I can watch it flow when pumping it. I can also help some one in need and pump it to them.

I added a 40 gallon in-bed tank with gravity flow. Cost was about 30% of changing out the factory tank and I can carry more fuel this way over the change out method. My range is now 760 miles. We like to stop every 2 hours or so but don't like to stop for fuel every time.

Good advice. Most 250/2500 trucks are already over weight before adding more fuel, or anything else.

Just bought a 50 gallon tank/tool box combo from an old guy retiring from RVing. I like it because I can buy my fuel at a price I like instead of being forced to buy it when I need it. This also extends my range considerably and considering we are doing a trans continental tour in 2018 the timing is perfect.

I installed a 30 gallon, gravity feed in bed tank, only 6" of bed space lost and now I have 66 gallons and don't have to worry about fueling every day. Cost about $400.00. KSH out of Lake Havasu, NV.

Would that be Lake Havasu City, Arizona?

Since we have plenty of time and are in no hurry we stop every 3 hours or so to change drivers and We do it at a truck stop so fuel while there. We have not felt the need for additional fuel tank since 2006, 2 Montana's and @ 100K miles.
