Water pump replacement.

Purchased a new Shurflo 5900-0211 Smart Sensor, empty you wallet water pump 3 years ago, I thought I was getting their best pump, quiet and pressure adjustable up to 65 lbs. it died or should I say started to leak at one of its diaphragm spots, I called the manufacture and as usual with my purchases it has been discontinued and now they are replacing it with the Revolution ( If it was still in warrantee ) which my pump isn't. so I have a new Revolution which was delivered today and I have decided to use connectors made by a company called Sea Tech Inc. http://www.seatechinc.com/

I will be rerouting all the fresh water supply pipes and using the Sea Tech connectors they seem to be a simpler way to connect the plastic pipe that Keystone uses instead of the screw together type. I will post some pictures soon of the retrofit for others that might need the information.

Don,
If you don't have an accumulator I suggest adding one while you are in there.
I really like mine and have not heard any negative comments about them. Lowes and Home Depot have a two gallon one which is a lot cheaper than CW.

John, I have considered installing an accumulator tank on my Monty but wasn't sure how to winterize water system with one. Would I still be able to purge system with air then pump the pink through? Really don't mean to hijack your thread Don. Tim

The tank is sealed and has a bladder inside. You put air in the bladder or it comes with air in it about 40 lbs and then the water is pushed into the tank. The 60 lb water pressure pushes against the bladder and fills the remaining area of the tank. When water is drawn the bladder pushes water out until pressure is down to 40 lbs when the pump comes on and refills the tank. This allows the pump to run for long times not short machine gun like when small amounts of water draw. However when the tank is low and the pump detects it needs to rebuild the pressure it runs a longer time (up to about a gallon) which actually is better.

Answering the question on winterizing. I mounted my tank with the water connection on the bottom. When the water pressure is drained the bladder fills the tank pushing out all the water. When pink fluid is pumped in it will take an extra gallon if you try to fill the tank until the pump shuts off and leave pressure in the lines. I leave a faucet open and just turn off the pump once all the lines are flowing pink, so my lines are not pressurized.

I ordered one with the tank John but after I read the instalation instructions, the manufactur states not to install a accumilator tank. Now I'm getting confused? I have one but dont know which direction to go. I wanted to install one thats why I got one.

I guess I would go with the manufacture of the pump.
For me with the older and less fancy pump the tank works great. I get about two flushes before the pump comes on.

It was the pump manufacture that said that below are the instructions for the pump.
John if the pump cycles to much I'll do as you sugested.

We had the SmartSensor as well....actually 3 of them. All of them failed in one way or the other. Fortunately for us they were all under the 3 year warranty. I seem to remember reading or hearing somewhere that ShurFLO discontinued them because of a continuing micro-possessor failure. Anyway, when we got the last one replaced they sent a Revolution which I installed. It has performed great and is not as quiet as the SmartSensor, but certainly seems to be more reliable. And you are correct, the installation instructions do say NOT to use an accumulator tank.

From the installation manual, "No need for an accumulator with by-pass pumps." It doesn't say you can't install one, so it's up to you, it won't hurt to install one. The big thing it does say, is to make sure you use flexible lines on both sides of pump to avoid vibration being transmitted to the plumbing system.

I will call shurflo monday and talk to them there are several contradictions in there instructions such as using ID of 1/2" line to prevent restriction of flow, when they supply the pump with connectors that have a ID opening of 3/8". on each end of the pump, If shurflo tells me not to use the accumulator that I just purchased # 182-200 Pre-Pressurized tank I will have to sell it to somebody I guess returning to amazon is a task.

On edit:
I called Shurflo and the accumilator must be set to 45 Lbs. other wise it will recycle too often, so you can install a accumilator in line so long as it is set for 45 lbs. the pump makes 55 lbs. of pressure and has a bilt in back flow.
