If the mud is up to your door post, you are stuck, no matter 4X4 or not

You are right, but not in the way you think so. I can remember changing spark plugs and points every 10 or 12 thousand miles. Tires wearing out at 20K, along with the brakes. Valve jobs at 40K and rings at 50K (if the car lasted that long). Oil changes every 1,500 miles. And cars rusted through in as little as 4 years. A car that had 100,000 miles was a real rarity, kind of like one that gets a million today. Not to mention all the advances in safety.
To those who say: "They don't build them like they used to", I reply: "Nope, they build them a lot better!".

Two months ago I used the 4x4 twice in a day. First pulling out of rain soaked driveway in Ohio. Then stayed at a KOA that just finished a new gravel section. I pulled into my spot and truck and fiver sunk in gravel nearly eight inches. Stuck hard I tell you. I pulled out using the four wheel drive. The next morning I assited in helping pull out, two other campers, caught in the gravel. Furthermore where I live, it's hard to sell a truck without 4WD. Oh KOA refunded my stay over their failure, to properly "compact" the RV sites.
