Tire pressure monitors

Any pros or cons on tire pressure monitor systems? We experienced two flats on our Montana within days of each other on the road.

All pros, no cons here! We have the TST system with user replaceable batteries. As an aside, it would help knowing the tires (Marathons?) and your rig (to determine weight). It has been well documented on this forum and others that the Marathons are barely sufficient for the heavier, larger Montana's.

We have the older TST and will be upgrading to the flow thru TST with user replaceable batteries. Only pros, no cons for us either.

Have had pressure pro (and will be selling that unit very cheap at the Rally) and we now use TST. Nothing wrong with the Pressure Pro but we went to the 507 TST to get the flow thru sensors and the replaceable batteries. If you're running Marathons on your rig you might get advanced warning with a monitor and you might not. Marathons are known for belt separation and other problems that can and will cause them to blow with little or no warning. At the very least you'll know when one let's go and hopefully mitigate some damage to the rig. The only con is if you do not have any tire pressure monitors. Saved us already.

Added the TST 507RV last spring. Even though I have never even had a low tire in 6 yrs and 17,000 miles I still felt much more comfortable being able to see the pressures and temps while driving.

It's better than having to search for the tire pressure gauge when you're heading out on the road.
TST 507... Sometimes I loose signal with one of the units while driving. I plan on installing a repeter (about $60) in the near future.

TST here. I just recently upgraded to the flow through sensors. I wouldn't travel without them.

TST 507 here with user replaceable batteries. Had it for two years now and it is another peace of mind while traveling. No cons here as well.

Advantages:

1) know the pressure AND temperature of you tires instantly whenever you want.

Disadvantage:

1) in my case did not warn of impending tire catastrophic failure. The warning sounded immediately after I heard and then saw the tire explode, which in my case cause two grand worth of damage.

Note that any system can not warn of a sudden and catastrophic tire failure (blowout) but it will warn of a lose of air pressure that if not acted upon will end up as being a catastrophic failure with the resulting damage. In our last experience our system alarmed when our Rv tire set at at 105psi fell to 95 psi.We were able to slow and look for a place to safely get off the interstate . We were able to monitor the gradual decrease of PSI due to the constant alarm and the location of the tire failure. We were able to get off the interstate and into a truck stop and by that time then psi had dropped to 50 psi but the tire was still on the rim and caused no damage. Once stopped the tire continued to drop in psi and eventually went flat. The cause was a bad valve stem. Had that tire come off the rim at 62 mph it would have had the same result as a blow out. The monitoring system is a cost effective way to protect a big investment.

We have the TireMinder from CW. Measures pressure &temp, has easy replaceable watch type batteries. Works great and on sale some times. The CW extended warranty for a total of 3 years was really cheap. Good luck.

TST 507, new this summer. The folks on this forum convinced me to get them and I'm glad they did. With the Marathons, which I hope to replace next spring, I realize a catastrophic blowout could be right around the bend, and no monitor is going to stop that. However, I'll know when it happens with this system. It's peace of mind for me and that's invaluable.

I just upgraded from the 510 to the 507 system with the flow through sensors. After the discount they gave me for owning the 510, and what it would have cost me to send my old sensors back in for battery replacement, the upgrade was a no brainer. Should have them Monday, according to UPS.

Thanks to all who provided response to our tire pressure concerns. We recently purchased the TST 507 system and look forward to a much safer road trip in the future. All stay safe!

Been debating getting a system for my Monte. For some of you that have the TST 507 system I have a couple of questions. How do the sensors install on the wheels/tires? Can you install yourself or are they internal? I did a quick search on the internet and a system with 4 sensors looks like it is under $350 or am I missing something?

JandC ... the 507's look like a lollipop on the valve stem of your vehicle. You simply unscrew your stem caps and screw on the 507's with the supplied wrench. I would suggest you convert to metal valve stems for peace of mind. There are many outlets for the system ... I got mine here http://www.plugitright.com Kits come with as many sensors as your application needs. The programming part of use is a breeze as long as you follow the supplied instructions. (You have to do this for the system to correctly display which tire is which.)

Thanks for quick info. Did some research and have mine ordered. Even watched a couple of videos on the install and it sure looks easy. One less thing to worry about on the trip south.
