Roof cleaning is............
......an ordeal. At least mine was. First, there was cleaning a year's worth of crude off it. That took about five hours. Then to finish, another hour or two to go around the parameter to get the roll over edges. Then the next day, there was mopping the top with Dawn dish soap to clean up the clean up residue. All that to get ready to apply the Protectall Roof Treatment. After it had dried from the second cleaning, then mopped on the treatment. That took about 20 minutes. I guess it was worth it, but I won't wait so long next time. Sure have a shiny white roof. Of course no one can see it up there, so who cares, but it seemed like the right thing to do at the time.

It's easier for me to pay to have it done. I'm not good with high places. A mans got to know his limitations.

The reason I did the mopping with Dawn is that after I cleaned it with the roof cleaner and after it dried, I could feel a chalky residue on the surface and my fingers were picking it up. Therefore the post cleaner mopping. After that, it was easy to apply the roof treatment, just spray it over a four to six square foot area and smooth it out with the sponge mop. These sponge mop refills are cheap, less than $3.00. I didn't bother cleaning them, just threw them away. It took 3 mop heads, one to clean, one to mop and one to spread the treatment.

It isn't fun but you did the right thing in MHO- I'm not looking forward to my time on the roof but you've given me the incentive to "gitrdun"- THANX- JMHO- Don

Comments did not seem to make it on first try???? Anyway, we do ours 3-4 times a year to keep the roof clean and to help cut down on the black streaks...does not seem to help much on either!

Okay, I'll bite...With a 20 year warranty and DICOR saying at the Rally's that nothing is needed, why do you all feel that the roof should be treated?

Don't know about anyone else, but I am driven to maintain anything I own...hate to have to replace something (and PAY for it) when some preventative maintenance would have kept those dollars in my pocket...don't try to urge anyone to follow my lead...if you don't wish to do something, that is your business, not mine:-)

Isn't a clean smooth surface more aerodynamic than a rough unclean surface that might attract birds in search of food? We keep the exterior surfaces clean, waxed and attractive- Why not the roof? JMHO- Don

I do clean ours, regularly, but haven't been treating it with anything. That was my question.

Perhaps its because thats the way we have always done it!!!!!! New products keep popping up that entice us into maintaining things that no longer need the TLC they once did.
We once changed our oil every 2000 miles, not so ofter anymore but I bet there are guy guys out there still changing it every 2k.

Mike, I haven't been on the forum for several days, but the reason I put the roof treatment on is to maintain the cleaning job longer. After I put it on, the roof surface is smoother, water beads up on it much like a wax job, and it is supposed to ad some UV protection to retard natural deterioration. I can surely tell the difference before and after.

Don't get me wrong, I have the roof cleaning and treating thing to do next week. I find it does have a smooth appearance after the treatment.
