I think I stepped in it....
When we checked in here at Calliente Springs, I talked to a lady about their emergency preparedness meetings they have. I asked her why they have them, she stated that the San Andreas fault line is one block to the West.... and it's not if the 'Big one' is coming, it's when. I looked it up, back in 2006 a scientist stated it could be 'tomorrow' or 10 years from now. I know, nobody knows.
The old Osbern luck, 1 block away...
Other concerns, we are on the East side of 'The 40' as the locals call I-40, and there are bridges that will fall, roads that will crumble. All the stores are over there. The lady here said all the resources will surely head for L.A. but who knows. I would imagine we would all be in deep do-do if that happens.
Time to stock up on Ramen noodles. And more cat food, it really doesn't taste that bad with crackers....

Ozz, think east young man, think east. Oh yea, don't worry about the tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards and all that. At least you will still be attached to the good ole USA, MAYBE!!!!........lol

Dont let it bother you OZZ, it is better than a tornado or hurricane, with them all your stuff get blown all over the state, in an earthquake all you stuff will be in a pile. Ha Ha LOL.................... then you go pick it up.

Ozz To me thats the same as being in yellowstone where the entire valley is a active Volcano. I have seen it and don't need to see it again!!! LOL. Hey don't need to be on a Fault line either. Its alot easery to run from a hurricane.

Lived in the area all my life and I have never heard the expression east of I-40. I have a house about 20 miles from you and never had a problem. Since 1972 we have had houses from Yucca Valley to La Quinta and we are alive to tell about it. We do have a problem with tornados, it`s all what you get use to.

You are definitely in a potentially dangerous area. Be careful and don't do anything that could cause the fault to become active. That means "No fooling around" while you are there!!

Hey Ozz.... there is some good news. Since you are East of the fault, then when the big one happens you'll be RVing next to newly created beach front property. The bad news is the resulting tidal wave may turn your RV into an Ark. The only mod you want to do now is to start waterproofing the bottom half of the RV so it doesn't sink when the water comes in. Keep the TV attached, so that will be your anchor.
Living in Earthquake country so long, I jest, but if it ever does happen woe to all of us.

When you visit Charleston SC, be sure to notice the large steel plates with large bolts exposed in their centers, earthquake bolts. They are in most of the downtown buildings. Larry
