A&E Electric Awning

I was at CW today and heard the A&E 8500 series is going away and they will only make the 8500 plus which has nicer arms and a shock absorbing leg that lets the awning drop the water off then springs back up. Wonder what that does to the Keystone production line?

Anyway - looked at the A&E electric, which is almost the same price in the bigger awnings. It is just too easy to put in and out, might be inclined to use it more, and get it put away in a hurry when I need to. Anybody installed one? Like it?

Brad,
Gypsy has an electric awning by Carefree. We saw it at Shasta last May. Really nice. However you cannot hang anything from it (Lights) or strap it down for even a little wind. At first we were going to do it and then decided against it. She really liked hers then and I haven't heard whether she still does. We were in a very windy area when we first got the Montana and had been there for a year with another 5er. We were able with some neat innovations to hold down the awning through the worst winds. I like having the awning up so not sure I would like the idea that it has to come up with the slightest wind. JMHO
Happy trails..........................

Sue, I agree

Have met people who have that electric one, and it is a nice sounding thing, but the reality is, it is a pain in the hiney, going up without notice, and sometimes, they cannot figure out why. Have yet to meet anyone who liked theirs. Not that there are not some people who probably love it, I just have not met them yet!

These new electrics I looked at don't do anything automatic, just in and out with a button. It's true you can't tie them down Sue.

I guess he concept for these is you put them away in bad weather or when you leave, rather than try to secure them down. I guess I wouldn't mind that as It goes in or out in 2-seconds, no flippin levers, pulling knobs, setting straps.

Sounds like they have improved them then.

Let us know how they work!

Carol - there are two different types. One is just controlled by you, as Brad said push a button. Then there is one that goes up automatically on its own if there is wind and it can be set to a certain degree of wind. It is more expensive than the one you control. Sharon has the one you control.

I don't know about you other guys but I have the carefree elec. arms and have had no problem with them. I don't know what you mean you cannot hang lights from them, I do, and can't you tie them down, I do. You either like them or you don't. I don't know how people can tell how to use a product when they don't even use it.
