Axle Upgrade Help
I want to upgrade from my current 6k axles to 7k which will include new wheels, but I'm having a heck of a time figuring out the most reasonable way to do it for cost and time. From everything I've read, I could do the job myself if I had the location and the jacks, which I don't since we are full timing. So I need advice: where can I get this done for a reasonable price? Had a shop in Little Rock give me a bid at $1000 and another in Nampa, ID for $5500 plus installation!!! How does one do this project?

I would wait till you get to the fall rally. Dexter, Lippert, Mor Ryde will all be there and there should be good rally prices.

Installation is not hard, alignment requires some smarts

On my 3400Rl I had 6K axle's and had one bend, when I took it to have it replaced I wanted to go to 7K. I was told that the 6& 7 axle's are the same and to get the 7K you have to change out the hub's and bearings to get that rating. The hub's and bearings are bigger and heaver.

Dexter 7k axles should be somewhere close to 1000$ and of course, these are complete assemblies with hubs installed...so you just haven to ubolt them in place, install your new 8 lug wheels/tires and good to go. You could give dexter a call and ask them what price would be when at the rally and make the appt with them. John

I changed out my #5200 for 7000, bought at a Dexter dealer and was told brakes are the same, but the springs are what would not be rated for #7000. But the springs were not the weak point in my trailer.
