Eternabond tape

I am interested in opinions concerning replacement of the Eternabond tape on the slide roofs- The tape on our unit is peeling and I am interested in how to proceed with this chore- Is it a DIY job or best left to an rv tech? THANX in advance for all replies- Don

I just had a water leak issue on my curb side slide. The front corner, where the outside flanges are mitered and then covered with the tape on the roof, and also quite a few of the screws that attach the flanges to the roof, were exposed. Not sure why, but suspect the edges of the mitered joint were too sharp, and the screws are flat head instead of a pan head style. I purchased a roll of Eternabond tape, 4" X 50' roll was just under $100. It is not real hard to apply, but the instructions say to use acetone to clean the surface prior to applying. I would suggest scrubbing the area with soap and water first, then let dry, then use the acetone. There is a clear plastic layer that needs to be peeled from the adhesive surface of the tape prior to applying. Also, remove all the loose tape first. You did pretty good, got almost the full 15 years of service from the tape the package says it's guaranteed.

Hardest part of the job for us was removing the slide topper and reinstalling.

Don, it's DIY. I've done ours more than once in the almost 14 years we've owned our rig.

The tape on ours is less than 4" wide so I removed the peeling tape washed it good and installed the Eternabond over the old tape, it worked out well
