Tire size

Hi, ok folks, I need a little help if you could please. I purchased new tires and went a little larger. I am on LT265/75/16s now. I was on LT245/75/16s. Since I don't know how to convert the metric size to inches, to see how tall the orginal tires were compared to the new ones, which I'm told are 31.6in tall. I don't know how fast I am really going when my speedo says 60. I also need to know, with taller tires, Am I going as far as the trip odomiter says I am.
