Towing 5er that hasn't moved in 8 years

Hi All,

I have a 2008 Montana 3585SA that I'm considering keeping to travel vs trading for a new one. Has anyone had any issues towing this model? I know access to fridge is an issue while on the road, but anything else a problem? I would need new tires of course.

Thanx - Dean

I would be concerned about bearing and brake condition.

X2 on the bearings and also check the seals to see of they are dried out. Pulling the wheels and repacking all of the bearings and inspecting the brakes first would be a good idea.

Guarantee you that the old grease has settled down to the bottom of each hub, leaving the top bearings dry. Before trying to move it at all, jack each wheel and spin them a few revolutions. That should get you at least a few miles down the road - if the tires don't blow from dry rot.

Have you been living in the RV or has it just been parked? If parked check for bee's nest in water heater and frig compartments. Also mice chewed wires and nest.

I figured I would check bearings and brakes when doing tires, but good points on jacking and rotating. I was going to grease them before moving also. It has been on blocks since we got it delivered to our seasonal site. Critters are always a problem, but dryer sheets and fox urine work pretty well

Thanx to all!

Your tires are at minimum 8 years old if not older. Usable life is 5. Look at the DOT born on stamp and see how bad they are.
