Bedroom Makeover

Here is a pic of the changes we made to our bedroom. We removed the headboard and made a new one out of oak. We got rid of the ugly window covers and bedspread.

Carol: Bought a 4 x 8 x 1/4 Oak plywood. Cut it 2'x 64 1/4".
Also bought a 1" x 6" x6' piece of oak and cut it 64 1/4". Cut it the same pattern as over the closet and routered the edge. Screwed the 1 x 6 onto the plywood from the back of the plywood and finished it with MinWax Classic Oak.
Also changed the fabric trim over the entrance door with a piece of the plywood and got rid of the fabric trim.

Bill and Ann - Looks great! So, did you make the toss pillows out of the former window/bedspread material??

Your new bedroom look is great. Thanks for sharing. It's such a great thing to do. The makeover really gives the bedroom a cozy, personal look.

You did a great job, the headboard and the piece over the door were one of the first things which John got rid of. Replacing gives the monty that homey look. I still have the same curtins and throw pillows, and the spread is folded at the foot of the bed. We have the mission headboard on ours.

The pictures of your new headboard, etc are really beautiful. Speaking of bedroom makeovers, where is the best place to buy bed linens?

Bill:

Great looking headboard!! Ever thought about making more and selling them at Monty Rallies??

How did you mount the new headboard and pictures to the wall?

John (JLBOZ60): It was your headboard and door that gave Ann the idea to do ours. It only took me from last Sept. at the rally to get to it.
Ron and Vic (Vickster): The toss cushions came with the unit when we bought it. I think they are standard on Big Sky's.
Bruce (bigskyguy): I used 2 brass screws in each of the upper corners under the top oak trim piece and a couple on the bottom which is hidden by the mattress. The pictures are hung on picture hangers. (nail and clip). Yeh sure, just pull a trailer behind the trailer to carry the headboards around. You obviously haven't seen my basement.

Thanks for the compliments. Momma is happy and that's the main thing.

Bill: Thanks for the added info. I may have to look into doing something like this. Standard headboard is too "frilly" for me!!

Virgil, I had to ask Vicki -- we balked at paying Camping World's prices for 180-count sheets so we use standard queen-size sheets. The fitted bottom sheet fits fairly nicely but we prefer it a bit more taut so use those clips on the sides to keep them tighter. The top sheet just gets tucked in farther.

Great looking improvement!! We have a window/emergency exit at the head of our bed, so no side windows or headboard. One of the first things I did was replace the bedcover with a quilt and shams to match. Like the look of the curtains and no valance. I also just buy queen size sheets and the elastic sheet "tamers" keep it taut.

Great headboard. We re-did ours, but you guys did such a beautiful job I will not post ours. It is mostly all new fabric and trim, etc. Guess you can tell I let the wife take control of the project.....it all matches. Thanks for sharing.
