Steps on a 2955

Has anyone changed out the 3 step for a 2 step on their 2955. I have had to straighten out my stairs a few times. They seem to hang down to far and are easy to bend It doesn't take much of a drop to catch them. I was thinking of making a wooden step and carry it in the truck.

I haven't but am thinking about it. Bent mine really bad leaving a camp site over the 4th of July. Had to pull them off the Monty and bend and pound them back into shape. My other option would be to get a shop to build some sort of skid plate assembly to protect them, but that would add more weight. We already carry a portable step that could be used as the first step. Still thinking at this time, but will have to do something before the steps become totally useless.

yep, it's a real problem, although some folks claim not to to have it. I replaced my 3 step unit with a used 2 step. It was 2" narrower than the steps I took off, but I filled the space with 2" box steel tubing, and it has stayed solid for a year now. To make up the difference in height, I bought one of those collapsible steps you see at camping World, Qsite, etc., and find that it's just the right height. It folds flat and stows easily.

Bottom line, I haven't scraped my steps yet with this setup, and I'm a happy camper.

I guess we've been lucky, ours are only slightly bent.

We camp in places that are somewhat lacking in level ground. We've had the back end so high off the ground that the lowest step is 18" high.

We have a 2955 and have never had any problems with the steps, outside of being to high in some place that we camp. I told DW that I would get her a step as soon as we go by a Camper World.... Do a search on this sight. I remember that we discussed it a few years ago on the 2955's.....JB
