Potential Newbie - OUR BABY IS HOME!

Hello folks, posting here to get some feedback from existing Montana owners as to how you like your rig and what the positives and possibly and (hopefully limited) negatives might be.

We are looking at a 2012 3580RL trading in our '05 Hitchhiker.

Thanks in advance!!!

Les and Sue

We don't have that particular model, but ours has the living room in the rear. We love our Montana. Like all RV's some rigs aren't made as carefully as others and some owners do have problems. We had a few things wrong with ours and two were what you might term major. We also live 200 miles from the dealer out in the middle of the boonies in Kansas. Keystone has stepped up to the plate every time, including when we weren't anywhere near an authorized repair center. They allowed a private service company to fix the problem, I sent them the bill and they promptly sent me a check. We also had some work done at the service center in Goshen. They were wonderful and the rig came back to us better than new. There are plenty of folks who will tell you they have had no problems with their Montanas. The reason I'm telling our story is that it's important what a company will do when things don't go right. Other forums are filled with stories of owners left to twist in the wind. Our experiences with Keystone and our Montana have been nothing but positive. In short we love our rig and are happy we made this decision.

1st... welcome to the MOC! Take a look around, use the search function, spend some time with us. There's a lot of information and topics here and good folks.
As for us, we haven't had any major problems with our Montana. It suits us just fine and we really enjoy it. We spent over 2 years shopping for a new rig and chose the Montana over all others. I think that says it all.

One further comment. This forum is another reason to buy a Montana. Few things ever come up that someone on here hasn't "been there and done that". The help you can find here, including how to pictures, is invaluable. Living in a 5th wheel is like owning a home that experiences a 4.0 earthquake every month or so. Having quality help available when it's needed does a lot for your peace of mind.

Been full timing in our 2008 Big Sky 340RLQ for near 5 years now. It has been great living quarters. Stuff happens, things break, just like in the stick house. Our old saying is that we think the Montana line is "the best bang for the buck".

LOL, DQDick.... I think your Richter scale needs adjusting. I'd say more like 6.5 and up as far as what a towable goes through. But maybe the roads are a lot rougher where I drive.

I'm actually amazed what a trailer goes through and stuff still works! I picked the Montana because of its bang for the buck and it's hard to argue its number one sales ranking year after year!

we started out in a tow behind. We knew we wanted something bigger and a 5th wheel real soon. We started looking almost immediatley. We looked at them all. We setteled on a Montana because of the quality and bang for the buck. Our first trip starts April 1st. A Great Escape of one month.

Hitchhiker has always built a great product. Will be interesting to see how you assess the Montana against it.

We have been RVing about 40 yrs now. Mostly excursions of up to a week or two. When we recently decided to go more often and longer trips (4 yrs ago) we took 2 yrs researching. It didn't take long to find Montana. So I decided to continue and try to find some reason to cull Monty. I'm very satisfied with ours after 2 yrs ownership. There are lots of good 5ers out there. You must satisfy yourself. This forum is a great benefit that we only found after purchasing. Use it well. You might do as well with SOB but I don't believe better. Larry

The one downside of any keystone product, including the Montana is the one year warranty. All other trailers we have owned had two year warranties from the manufacturer. Has not stopped us however from being three time montana owners

We have had our Montana for two years and have not regretted our decision to go with Montana...of course, an RV purchase, like most things, is a personal choice. If you go with a Montana, think you will be happy.

Even if you decide on SOB, you can still take advantage of the forum. Hope to hear more from you.

Well folks, we pulled the trigger and are now proud owners of a new 2011 3580RL. We traded in our HH and still cannot believe the value we have in the Montana.

We could not pass up this brand new leftover dealer stock which has been customized by them as a show model. My DW could not believe how clean it was from top to bottom. It has the all of the available options in the MTM and Hickory packages plus they added slide awnings.

We will pick our new baby up next week but are doing our PDI (and thank you for the excellent lists in the links) prior to the dealer prep so next week they will have time to address any issues we find before next Saturday's pick-up.

We really appreciate all of your comments and suggestions.

Quite frankly it was a no brainer with the deal we recieved as compared to our original rig, beyond night and day. Amazing how in 8 years how much the technology has allowed these new rigs to be so much more advanced. Just the 2 hours we spent looking at the rig before we shook hands with the dealer we could not believe the quality in the detail.

Now we get to have the fun of the PDI....

As soon as we get our new home hooked up we will get some pics with Bigboomer, the rig you see in our signature which will tow Little Boomer around.

Yeah Baby!!!!

Congratulations on the purchase! I believe you'll find you made the right choice.
BTW, I (and probably others here) am wondering what else (if anything) you use that good looking truck for....

Well for those that have their curiosities peaked.....we haul our motorcycles in the garage box...here are a few picks of the American made Ameri-Deck hydraulic lift that comes out so we can load the bikes and pull them back up and in.

If I can figure how to get a video link to Photobucket I will send it over...
