Redding to Eureka

Looking at towing Montana on Hwy 299 from Redding to Eureka. Does anyone have any experience on Hwy 299? Thanks.

good road, just have to take your time. Figure on 5 hours form Redding to 101 intersect. If you are going north and looking for campsite, you might check out Stone Lagoon at Orick. Glenn and Lorraine just were there and yes it is nice. The elk wandering thru even makes it more interesting. If travieling south recommend Riverwalk RV park in Fortuna. Try to stay away from KOA in Eureka and 101 traffic!

We drove it last year without any problems. A couple of 8 degree but just for a short time. We enjoyed it a lot.

We have been over 299 many times towing our old tt and twice with the Montana. It is a designated scenic highway and a nice drive. There is a 8 mile section of road just past Whiskeytown Lake that is very curvy, just take your time and enjoy the drive.

We drive 299 4-5 times a year going to Redwood Trails at Orick (QRA Park at Stone Lagoon). We average 4 hrs. Redding to Hwy.101. Just made the 101 to Redding trip on the 27th. One 5 min traffic delay due to roadwork. You pull 4 summits ranging from 2200 to 3250 ft.elev. Buckhorn out of Redding is the curviest, just take your time, it's only six miles. Oregon Mtn. just west of Weaverville is steep up and dowm, but is a short pull over it. Then it's a beautiful tow down the Trinity River for 35 miles or so. We met Glenn and Lorraine at Stone Lagoon and he made me aware of MOC, so I joined upon arriving home. Thanks for the tip Glenn.
