Garmin StreetPilot 2610

Just purchased a 2610. It appears that I can create a route on my PC. Than download only the map section needed for the trip. I also don't know how how large of a flash card I need to operate. Is the one that came with the unit large enough?

I probably can't help much with the 2610; I have a Garmin IQue3600. Based on that experience, which may or may not be applicable to you, I would be surprised if the card which came with the unit is sufficient for anything but a very small area. I currently use a 256K SD card, which will hold street-level data for maybe 4 to 8 states (depending, of course, on the size of the states).

I currently have on order a 2GB SD Card, which will accommodate the entire US and Canada. I am told that MapSource City Select v. 7, which I assume your unit uses as well, requires about 1.6 GB for the entire US/Canada.

If your unit uses different mapping software, disregard this post.

We have the 2610 and found the storage completely adequate. I don't start on a pc. I just take the unit inside the night before and operate on shore power while I plan.

Don,

Al has a 2 gig card, he put all of the US and part of Canada, we think it is the Ontario section. He says there is still a bit of storage left on the 2 gig card.

We have the mapping software and sometimes we use it on the computer and then download. Other times we route while on the fly, even while running down the road.

It sounds that I might need to get the 2 gig card, because from what I heard it is easy to set routes on the fly or while stopped for the night. Thanks for the information.
