Pull Rite Superglide
I bought a new 2015 Ram 2500 4X4 last year. It has the 6 foot bed. I couldn't get a firm answer from anyone about the need for a sliding hitch (we tow a 2010 Montana 3000RK), so I bought the Pull Rite hitch. The trailer doesn't seem to get anywhere close to the truck cab. Is it possible to tow with a conventional hitch?

Not sure I understand your question. The auto hitch is doing its job. If you change to a fixed hitch with a 6" bed, you'll crunch the TV or FW, or both.

With a short bed truck, stick with a slide hitch. For the vast majority of you your towing needs you will never need to "slide" the hitch back. However, there will be times that you need to jack-knife your rig and you will need that extra room between the cap and the cab. Better safe than sorry. Also remember to "slide" your hitch forward when you are done.

Agree with phillyg and Burkholder. I have a short box Chevy and went with the pull rite and am glad I did.

Agree with Burkholder. We have a short bed Chevy. Have never needed our slider when pulling our Montana, but used it when moving a friend's older rig that sat over the kingpin further.

I agree you may not need it or ever have to use it but that one time you do need it your glad you have it. Also for me it not having to worry about taking the back of my cab out. The pullrite slider is a good hitch I love the one I have.

I like the way the hitch works, once we're connected. But I find hooking up can be a challenge when I don't have a straight shot at the trailer.

We have the Reese auto slide, we pull with a Chevy Duramax short bed. The super slide doesn't have to engage very often, but we are sure happy to have it when it does. Well worth the investment. We have several friends who have smashed cabs....arghh

If you got the Superglide as you turn, the hitch automatically slides back. I have the Superglide and love the auto feature. My trailer is a 2005 that does not have radius front corners so I need a slider.

To "jack-knife" your trailer to the point of hitting your truck with it should NEVER be done with a slider or no slider. To do so puts WAY TOO MUCH STRAIN on your axles!

Yeh, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do!! I got trapped in a mini cul-de-sac in a state park. Front fenders lightly brushed the bushes when doing my u-turn!

Sorry but I have the retired trucker view on this subject. If you can drive it in you can back it out.

He doesn't need remember to slide his Pullrite hitch forward. It does it automatically.

The Pullrite does have a limitation as to hook up angle but in the 5 years I owned/used mine it was never a problem

I have a Superglide on my short box. I love it for many reasons, especially since I don't have to think twice about making turns. Furthermore, I can easily remove the entire hitch in minutes, leaving an unimpeded and clear truck box, because the rales are mounted under the box, directly to the truck frame. Since I use my truck for other purposes and need the complete truck box, that was very important.

I have had a super glide on my 6 ft bed since 2004 made some crazy u turns over the past 12 years and never thought twice about hitting the cab. They work great.

Had a Pullrite Superglide for my F150/Cougar combo and it worked great. Have discovered the new combo with a manual slide MUST be slid under some circumstances. I have "kissed" both corners of the TV and FW in fairly sharp turns, once at a gas station where there was uneven pavement causing the TV tilting left while the FW tilted right, and once doing a u-turn at a cross-over on a highway in VA. All I lost, fortunately, was some paint. I have on order a Demco Hijacker auto slider. Didn't order the PR SG because the FW plate sits at 18" and is not adjustable, which is way too high for my application. The Demco is adjustable down to 15-3/4".

To the OP...you might be able to get away without a slider assuming your model Montana has the newer radiused front cap. Mine does, but I still went with a Superglide on the Superrails and it works great! Been using it for 5 1/2 years with zero problems. Keep the rails lightly lubed and put some 3-in-1 oil on the capture plate and hitch plate (just for friction reduction when hitching and un-hitching...since there is no turning you don't need grease).
One caveat though (you may already know this) but due to the "capture plate" with the wedge you can't have your trailer towed by a standard 5th wheel hitch UNLESS you either (A) remove the capture plate 1st (a royal PITA depending on your particular plate or (B) Buy the adapter from Pullrite that will allow a standard 5th wheel hitch to tow your trailer with the capture plate intact (which was MY choice)
I've seen photos of what happens when someone isn't aware of the unique properties of the Superglide capture plate design and tries to tow the trailer with a standard hitch...it ain't pretty!
