Spring cleaning 2012

Well today was the day I started my annual spring cleaning inside the Montana. Every year I generally start in mid January by taking my time polishing every little piece of woodwork, trim along the slides, cabinet doors etc. I have satellite with DVR inside so last summer I recorded several Twins games and have those on while doing the cleaning while sucking on a few cold ones. All the cabinets will get organized/cleaned out, carpets shampooed, scrubbing bathroom/shower etc. The whole process will go on during Sat afternoons between now and early March and will culminate in Mid March with a complete wash and hand wax at a friends New Holland implement shop. Not much else to do in North Dakota in the winter so I find this actually fun to do getting ready for the season. DW just can't figure out why I don'nt get excited for cleaing the stick house.

Did the outcome of the Twins game change since you recorded it? I recorded a Colts game with Houston watched it twice and they still lost.
Cleaning is good - it is amazing how much dust can collect in there compared to the Stick house.

Nah, Twins still lost, as usual!

I spend my winter remodeling then the cleaning starts. I rebuilt all the drawers as they were only 16 in deep and had room for 22in deep drawers and built a new drawer under the oven for pots and pans. Then after seeing Ozz's picture of heater install put in an electric heater and today am going to change the propane piping to add a quick connect for grilling and cooking outside. Little to cold to go camping in Minnesota, but can't stay out of the Monty.

Ok guys, good on you getting those things done at this time of the year. In our house the wait is on and I usually get started about mid March, depending on the weather and people around here think I am nuts!!! We also try to get our first 7-10 day trip in to the west about the 3rd week of April and again most people think we are nuts!!!

At any rate Rick and Kevin you both live in very similar climates to us in Manitoba, so I can only presume you both must be supplying a form of continuous heat to your rigs in order to complete these tasks. Was out to the Montana yesterday and even though it's been an exceptionally warm winter this year I wasn't long closing the door again to await much warmer weather. Guess it was my groundhog day!!!.......Just 6 more weeks!!!

As far as heat goes, I just wait for a weekend when the temps are in the upper teens/low 20's (even better above freezing)and fire up the furnace in the morning at 9 am. By 11am, it is plenty warm in there and I put out the slides. Shut the heat off by evening. Repeat again on Sunday. I throughly enjoy the cleaning/suds drinking that goes on during these months leading to spring. I at least I get to spend some time in the Monty and the interior gets cleaned properly.

People here think I am nuts as well especially where I fill my 30 pound propane tanks.

Yep, I turn on the Mr Buddy and an electric heater in 1/2hr the temp is 60 and thats warm enough for the suds and to work. I did the drawers in my heated work shop-hard to live in Mn without one of those as long as we can't be snowbirds.

Progress continues. Since I initinally start this thread, I have polished ALL the woodwork, trim etc. Cleaned and used window polish on all the glass storage doors in the living room. Brought in all the runner rugs and washed them in the house. Today, I scrubbed the shower, toilet and sink and floor. Shower was a bugger as I had some stubborn soap scum but got it clean. Cleaned the whole kitchen/under the sink too. All there is left to do is bring in the dishes/silverware etc and run through the house dishwasher and shampoo the carpets. Middle of next month is when I bring the Monty to a friends implement shop and do the whole wash, wax and buff. A few cold ones were consumed in the spring cleaning today!
