Niagara Falls area campsite? - Montana Owners Club

Thinking of a possible trip to see Niagara Falls......American or Canadian side. If Canadian cgrounds....would need to know what we can or can't bring in the Monty......like food? Any help finding a decent campgrounds would be great! Thanks, D

I know there are campgrounds closer but we really like Southwoods RV in Byron, NY. Great owners, friendly seasonal owners and well maintained. It is about 60 miles from Niagara Falls. We had our NE Rally there in 2009.

we stayed there with H.John, easy to get to Niagara Falls from there--great campground..lots of things to see in that area

We have been in that area 3 times and each time we stayed at Niagara Heartland RV Park, in Gasport, NY. Close to the locks in Lockport, and about 20 miles direct drive to Niagara, and about 30 miles via the scenic route along the Great Lake (forgot the name, duh!). It is a Passport America CG with full hookup, gravel pull through. Quiet, peaceful setting. Lake for swimming or fishing.

I was on the Canadian side in 1968 and it was beautiful but I wasn`t camping then .I didn`t have time.

We went to Niagara Falls several years ago on the Canadian side. It was beautiful to see from that perspective. We stayed at a campground just above the falls almost in walking distance but I can't remember the name of it. It was however very nice and located at the top of the hill.

On Edit: When we were there from what I can remember you won’t be able to cross the border with your camper at the falls. We went in from behind Niagara Falls on the Canadian side using the Queens Highway (I think). There may be other routes that will work also but there simply isn’t room to get across at the falls with a camper. It has a very tight turn with booths. That was in 1995 and things could change but that is what I remember about it.

Check out Four Mile Creek State Park, especially the sites that back up to Lake Ontario. We spent 4 or 5 days here to visit Niagara Falls. The views are great of the lake. Approx. 20 minutes to Niagara Falls

To the other part of your question, I would leave all firearms on the U.S. side, and for sure absolutely NO HANDGUNS.

There has been talk about different items, like vegetables, dog food, and the like. Dog food has to be in its own container that it was packaged in. When we crossed from Niagara and headed West through Sarnia, we were asked at the border crossing into Canada if we had any firearms. We didn't. If we had any vegetables, and we said we didn't, but then DW told me she had some tomatoes and cucumbers in the refrigerator - oh well. They also asked if we had papers on rabies shots for the pupper standing there looking at him. We stated we did, DW had them ready, but he did not ask to see them.

Exiting to the U.S. side out of Sarnia into Port Huron, the U.S. customs agent only asked where we were coming from and if we had stopped anywhere. We had made one stop at a rest area. We conveyed that information and we were on the way.

I had a lot of apprehension, but it really turned out to be a simple entry/exit. We did have our passports with us, and from what I have heard, you can get into Canada without one, but getting back into the U.S. can be a bummer.

Thank you Wayne....we do have our passports, but was concerned about the food thing. We just want to get out of our comfort zone here in OH, being that we just picked up our first Monty this past April. It's time to leave the nest and see the rest of the world!

We stayed at Cinderella Motel and RV Park on Grand Island on the US side and Windmill Point Park Fort Erie on the Canadian Side. Both are reasonably close to Niagara and both are PA. Both were fine although the Cinderella park was a little tight and not much in the way of facilities.

There is a KOA in Grand Island NY about 20-30 minutes from the falls. Easy to get to. Have your passports for the border to get back. Crossing the border at the peace bridge would be your best bet,but be carefull it is tight thru the crossing

We stayed at Branches of Niagara at Grand Isle, NY in July. Nice campground--only been open a few years. We took a tour directly from the RV Park to Niagara Falls--including the Canadian side. Have a great trip.

You can get a Monty across any of the bridges here in Western NY. We just came back from the Ontario Samboree. Crossed at the Lewiston Bridge going and at the Rainbow in Niagara Falls coming back. No firearms, fresh fruits or veggies (we've had some in the fridge before) and as mentioned papers for any fur kids you might have with you. Generally getting into Canada isn't a problem, coming back to the States is where they are a little picky. Have stayed at the KOA on Lundy Lane in Niagara Falls, CA, have large pull-thrus and I think they run a shuttle to the Falls. We like the Canadian side better (nicer setup). Have a great trip

Just left KOA on Grand Island. The campground is well kept, it is close fit with campers for the pull-throughs on the backside and they are on the interstate side with truck noise. If you get a site in the front portion it should be better. We talked with one of the current caretakers that is a MOC member and she was very friendly, helpfull and informative. The tour buses make pickups at this KOA.
