Feedback on central vacuum systems

I have a 2004 Montana that is not equipped with a central vacuum system. My sister and her husband have come to appreciate how well made and liveable my trailer is and are now shopping the new 3400RL's. Their current RV is a 1999 Mobile Scout by Sunnybrook but does not have a CVS and she is wanting some feedback on this option since she has never had it. Would someone please respond with feedback on this option including who manufactures the system that Keystone installs in their Montana fifth wheels? I could not find that information on their website. Thanks.

We certainly love ours!!! It is the standard Dirt Devil model CV950 (I think thats it) with the Rug Rat beater bar attachment. Its great for clean-up after trips although our Dyson comes with us once or twice during the season for a thorough cleaning.

The built in that comes witht he 3400 is made by Dometic, and is very funtional. good suction, bags last a long time. You can get a beater bar for it from Shop Vac. My wife loves the thing. Got tob e honest here, I've used it and it really dies a good job. Left a round welt on my leg when I was playing with it.

I'm really pleased with it also. I need to look at this beater bar attachment that I've read other's post about. But in general, I really like it. I purchases a Dometic pack of ten bags which also includes 2 motor filters and 1 exhaust filter from CW. I figure that'll last me a while...LOL

Debbie, we love ours and I think there have been posts recent enough that you can do a search and see what others have said. We have the ShopVac beater bar as well and it works really good.

Lorraine was very skeptical about a central vac at first and would not let me get rid of her upright. She used it the first time and I sold the upright at a yard sale. I still want to see if the hose is long enough to reach the TV. I would sell my little wet/dry Shop Vac but you never know when I may need the wet side which over the past 3 years I did use when I forgot to open the dump valve while flushing the black tank but that's another story.

Glenn, the hose is long enough if you're a contortionist. I just tried this act the other day for the first time. When the vacuum hose is stretched …and when the truck is close enough to the front door, it helps if you don’t weigh over 80 pounds to get out of the coach door without banging the side of the truck with said coach door. Then you have to figure out a way to get both yourself and the hose past the truck doors. Vacuuming standing on your head with your shoulders extended just a little bit past the sockets sure helps…if you can stand the pain, it really sucks!

Bottom-line, keep your wet/dry vac.

We have a lab whose shedded hair is pervasive. If we did not have him, I think the CVS with the powered head would be more than adequate. However, since we do have him, we are carrying our Oreck. Does a better job and is faster; it does take up room, however.

I bought the one a ShopVac.com. It is 4 inches and does a great job and only cost $23-$24. The more expensive ones are 6 inches. Since we only have 400 sq. ft., I didn't think 2 inches mattered.

Is it the Turbo Brush attachment at Shop Vac that you are using?? Curious as to what specific attachment you are using. Is there any kind of powered attachment that can be used with the Dometics??

I might be wrong here, but I think all of the Dometics have a 1 1/4 inch hose. Here is a power head that I found. I have been looking for one, hear they are at WAL-Mart, but I haven't been able to find one yet.

We have the Dirt Devil, it came standard with the Cambridge and our hose reaches from the front to the rear inside. We have a connection for the Vac in the Basement area above the Satellite and electric connection. Very useful for cleaning the TV... Good Luck with your choice....GBY......

WOW! Thats great info! We are using our regular vacuum, because we couldn't find a rugbeater for the dometic. Our built in has great suction, but I miss the rug beat. Will have to try the ShopVac site. Thanks so much!!!

Lorrie and I have the Dirt Devil and added the Power dust pan. This is the greatest addition and it is much quieter than the Dometic. The power is incredible. The host will reach out the door so I can vacumn the truck. We will specify the Dirt Devil on our new rig.

After seeing recent postings on this same subject, we purchased a Turbo Nozzle off the ShopVac site. We received it in the mail within 3 days! We tried it out on our wet/dry vac in the garage and it works like a champ. Its small size will make it easier to fit in tight places too. I sure hope it fits on the central vac in the Monty! When we get the trailer back from its warranty service we will give it a try! I'm 99.9% sure it will fit, if not it's back to the drawing board!
