Having looked at the potential towing numbers for that gas engine vs the diesel, can't imagine why anyone would even consider going with gas over diesel...unless they have some inside information about diesel fuel prices rising dramatically!

not on this end but its probably like the old workhourse 460 cid.
It is probably prity good with all the new tecknoligy Fuil injestion and god knows what else they have put in them.
The only thing good I see on a gasser is quicker responce on the gas peddal and a shorter life span than a diesel. I have had all types of motors gas and diesel.

You will get all kinds of opinions on this topic.
In my opinion, if you will be making short and infrequent trips the gasser will be fine. Otherwise get the diesel.

We tow with a v-10 and have had good luck with it. Also,we tow like you do,short trips, 5-6 times a year. Until we travel more, the gas engine will do fine. It is hard to justify the 7-8,000 dollar price jump with the diesel when you don't put many miles on it.

racerjoe says it right.... the 6.2 has okay specs and two less spark plugs and if you are willing to live with the limitations it presents at similar to the frequency he suggests, then go for it. However, make sure you still stay within the weight ratings (they will be less with the 6.2L).

If you only tow 6 to 8 times a year the 6.2 will work just fine for you. I pulled a 7200 pound dry weight 5er to Worming 5000 miles with a F150 5.4 one time. Yes don't tell me it wasn't safe I already know that. It was a white knuckle experience. You might go a little slower but its local so who cares. If you ever plain to go on a long trip get the diesel.

The challenge is to be able to accurately predict how you will use the truck in the future...you already know you will be towing a relatively heavy trailer, so the rest of the equation is how much and how far.

"I only tow my rig 6 to 8 times a year and mostly local.".... we pulled this 3400 with a 05 F-350 V-10 under pretty much the same circumstances and it did just fine.....However after doing our first big trip out west doing long steep grades and realizing our travel needs had changed we went to the 08 6.4 Diesel. You might want to look at your long term needs.

I agree 100% Rich. Don't forget as Rich and I found out you loose 3.6% of your power for every 1000 feet of elevation you gain. so the 400 pound feet of TK you have when you go over the mountain before you got to Laramie Wy at 8800 feet you are down to 276 pound feet of TK.

My point exactly; if you end up towing more/further than you now expect to, you could end up needing to trade that gas pusher for diesel on down the road. Of course, if you stay local and tow infrequently, it appears a gas engine would suit your needs.
