F350 SRW and 2009 3000RK Mileage

Anyone like to predict what sort of mileage I will get towing a new Monty 3000RK behing an F350 (53k miles) SRW diesel crew?

We are putting together the rig as I type and I'm afraid to ask.....

We are seeing $4.49 per gallon today for diesel fuel in our area (NE Orlando suburb). Does not seem too bad when compared to some.

Anyone running a similar rig want to chime in?

Thanks - Bill

Bill i have a 2006 f250 crew cap short box and pull a 3000rk .. we have about 15000 to 16000 miles on the unit now and average towing is 10.6 but some times in the hills i get better ,, maybe i coast more ,, on the land with no unit behind i have got as good as 19.9 on a 600 mile rd trip to chicago and back north , i ran with traffic but was amazed at the millage , most on the rd i get 17 to 18 mpg on the open highway ,, i have a 6.0 diesel .. sometimes you check on a trip and its only 9.6 but as the computer on that many miles average is 10.6 ,, sailer

I have an '07 F350 SRW 4x4 6.0 pulling a 3075RL at around 12,000#. Flatland towing between 65 and 70 will get about 11 mpg. On 1600 mile roundtrip to Colorado and back last year I got 10.2 mpg total for the trip including Raton and La Veta passes (both ways).

Not a Ford but on last 4400 mile trip from Dallas-Michigan and back pulling 3000RK with '06 2500 Dodge 4WD, got 12.3 mpg for whole trip, probably 80% towing, usually 60-62 mph. (Crappy computer showed 15.4). Truck had just 11000 miles at start of trip.

Well, I hate to admit this.....

It is a 6.0 Powerstroke diesel

I can't find a sticker with the axle ratio.

I did find something that said it was a D1.

How do I find out the axle ratio?

And....to further complicate things.....

If you look at the Montana web site today. They have upped the numbers on the 3000RK and I assume all other models with the 10th Anniversary Pacakge.

3000RK now weighs 11,005 with a hitch weight of 2455

My earlier brochures and flyers said this:
3000RK = 10,560 or 10.065
Hitch weight = 2160

So they have modified the numbers considerably - The 3400 is now up almost 1000# over my old (January) brochures.

Good thing I bought the F350 over the Dodge 2500.....I would have been overweight!

I have a 99 F-250 V-10, 4.30 diff and the 2006 3000RK. I average 8.5 to 9.5 depending on speed, generally 65mph or depending on traffic. Trip this July will try 55 if traffic permits. Even with gas prices being where they are everyone passes me when I drive the speed limit in our car.

Was in a Ford dealership recently and was told that Ford may be coming out with a Chip update soon that supposedly improves diesel fuel mileage. I'll beleive it when I see it. I'm still running a 2003 F250 7.3 Diesel with 3.73 rear end pulling a late 06 3400 RL. MY mileage is so much better than what I hear others are getting on the 08 Super Duty's that I'm staying with what I have. But that isn't the primary reason. I had my Cam sensor replaced under a Ford Recall, hadn't had any problems, and mentioned to the Service advisor that I was thinking of buying a new truck. In very clear terms he told me "stay with what you have, way less problems!" But... I said: My 5 year warranty is up next month! He says: "Stay with what you have. You will be much happier." WOW!

You mean that because the warranty runs out you have to buy a new truck? I guess I have done it wrong all these years.g

bigmurf,

I was considering buying a new one before my existing warranty was over so that it would be more valuable to the dealer and future buyers. I would prefer a Crew Cab rather than an Extended cab that I currently have and higher pin weight carrying carrying capability but now I'm going to live with what I have. I was told by a sales guy at this dealership that there is a rumor that Ford is going to change the chip to get better gas mileage. on the 2008's. Not sure if this is sales hype, wishful thinking or possible fact. The current 7.3 engine has been very reliable with only Ford recall changes in 75,000 miles. I've heard the 6.0 and 6.4 don't have as good a record.

Bill, I did a google search. The D1 is a 3.73 rear axle, which is the standard axle ratio for your year Ford. Also, the D1 is Limited Slip (that's good).

My 99, 03, and 05 all had the 3.73 axle, as does this Dodge. I think it's a good all-round ratio to have for a combination of towing and solo running around.
