LOL @ Ozz...I should say with you and not at you...

It does validate your point about many 4WD owners though. Many think they can go through anything because they have it and because it usually works so well when you do need it.
During snow storms in MN, you see a few 4WD units in the ditches...is it because they think they can go through it, or because they forget they don't stop any better than a 2WD.
When you see them, they are usually buried really bad because they keep pushing.

sorry, we buy 4WD because it is is fun and if we get stuck, we don't want to just be stuck, but very, very stuck...

We're here in the Poconos of Pennsylvania. You may have been hearing about all the rain...

Anyway, we were faced with a severe leveling problem on grass, requiring quite a few blocks. With 4WD low, no problem in getting the Monty up on the blocks (after spinning the truck's wheels in 2WD).

To add to the difficulty, we are in a park where a 40' 5er is an anomoly - what with the steep grades and tight turning radii. With our truck, we had no problems...The 4WD is always my "backup" if I get stuck. Not to say you can't get stuck with 4WD, but it is difficult if you are reasonable and sober (sorry, Ozz).

Agreed, 4x4 historically;
> Considered by my father as a weakness, due to failures of front drivetrain.
> Today's 4x4 systems are good for duration of vehicle life-span. So this issue is resolved.
Considerations today are;
Negative...
> Cost of additional drag...less with Diesel "Engine" (sorry Brad, Motor = elect powered).
> Typically worse ride due to heavier spring suspension.
> Higher hitching heights...compromises bed to 5er overhang...minimum is 4.5 inches.
> Additional Maintenace components.
> Reduced towing capacity.
> Higher stance and potential for high speed roll over.
Positive...
> Lots of options to use for navigating difficult sites and weather.
> Ability to provide assitance to those who chose the 2wd option (been there done that ho ho).
>...sorry...lost train of thought...maybe others can help me here? Or have I made the wrong choice?

The additional maneuverability in bad conditions in CGs - even in FL, as Glenn has already mentioned - has been invaluable.

I think that losing 2mpg(avg) by having 4X4 versus 2WD is not an issue. However I will stop and help pull you out should you want the extra 2MPG on your rig and get stuck, of course you will have to be towing a Montana
