New Style Mirrors Chevy/GMC for 06
From day one I never liked the OEM style camper mirrors on my 02 GMC.
Was in a Chevy dealer last night and saw a new 06 with a new style more vertical design with two mirrors 1 regular and 1 wide field appeared that both can be adjusted independently not like mine with one adjustment. Also looks like they would be interchangeable.

It would stand to reason that they would change the mirrors in 06. I feel the towing mirrors on the 05 (like mine)and earlier GMC/Chevys are the pits. It's about time GM realized that a vertical mirror is 100% better than any horizontal piece of crap. Dodge had the right idea with the flip from horizontal to vertical for towing mirror. If the idiot engineers at GM would just look at the mirrors on tractor trailers they would see nothing but vertical mirrors. A vertical mirror gives the driver a much much better picture of what is along side as well as behind.

On our 06 GMC we have the two mirrors as Ken described. Ours are electric and the top portion adjusts electrically, the bottom doesn't. They pull out for when you are towing. Since we haven't towed yet we don't know how they will work. Will let you know after we get to Minden.
Happy trails.

I'll second that BillyRay. My '02 are manual and need to be adjusted each time I tow.

I have my dealership looking into having the new 2006 mirrors installed in my 04. I hate the current mirrors.

Regarding the GM electric mirrors that pull out for towing. Anybody have experience with their mirror vibrating? Our 05 Chevy Silverado has the mirrors and the driverside mirror vibrates. We have been back to the dealership several times, even had the mirror replaced. Still same problem. Service Tech believes this might be a design flaw with GM. Service Tech took us for a ride in his fathers P-up with same mirrors, and showed us how that truck was doing the same. Both trucks have under 5,000 miles on them. Mirrors are great except for the vibrating when towing. Advice from dealership is for us to wait for a recall ....so we'll wait, it's all we can do. Someone has suggested to us to call GM and make a complaint, which they refer to as a "ticket".

I agree about the mirrors and would add that they do not pull out far enough to see down the sides especially when backing. Maybe the new ones will be better.

Partycrasher, you may check the bug guard on front if you have one. They do cause your mirrors to vibrate too, don't know why but when we took it off they stopped vibrating.

My mirrors on my 04 viberate as well, and I do have the bug guard on the front. I have found that if you just tilt each one in just a tiny bit it will take the viberation out. From what I have found with mine is when I close the door it tends to "shake/viberate" the mirrors, and when you tilt each on in just a tad it seems to put enough pressure on them and takes that viberation out.

We have replaced our 02' mirrors, with Electronic "Power Vision" mirrors ordered through Power vision/Pendleton, OR., and saved about $150.00 by buying direct. Mel did say it was an all day installation project though, with having to cut a hole in the door for the in & out switch and running the wires. It does however plug into the existing wiring. They too are horizontal and he wishes they were vertical but they do not vibrate at all.

Just picked up our 2006 Chevy Duramax last week and I love the new mirrors. We had a 2002 Ford Powerstroke and the mirrors were also vertical. Nice to see the General make the change when I did. The field of vision is nice and wide.

We have the '04 without the extending tow mirrors. These tilt everywhichway and fold in as well. I put the plastic extension mirrors from CW on and leave them on. I just fold in the mirrors whenever I park. No vibration, work great, lots of coverage. But...I'd go for the verticals if I could.
