Propane Usage

Okay all you boondockers.

I'm in a position where I am at my current campsite at Fort Monroe, VA 'till June 27th. Then I have to leave for 6 days and will be back at the same location for the month of July. To avoid pulling the Monty home and leaving it for those six days (It won't be at a site) my question, after all that preamble is:
how long can I run the refrigerator (2-door model, 12 cu ft, I think) on propane? Cost here is about $30 or so for 30 lbs. Only time I've run on propane has been for short period at sites and when on the road, of course.
Would I be better off parking in the overflow lot at $5/day where they have electricity?
Jerry

I would think the battery would run down before you would run out of propane. Don't know for a fact and don't remember you battery configuration, but I know ours will run dead which is why I am in the process of adding another one. Just my thoughts, but I am sure some experienced boon-dockers will chip in and dispute it if I am wrong.

I know we’re not much on boon docking but if I was going to be away for several days I would want to turn everything off if possible. My usage of course with the propane isn’t very high. I’ve ran through a few tanks only to discover that I had forgotten to turn off the furnace after having it on. That will use propane quite fast!

Propane usage would be very low as the fridge door will be closed for that period. (Unless outside temps are ultra high). As far as 12 volt consumption, your fridge is ignited by a DSI system which will use little to no power. With a good set of battery/s your service from them should last for at least a week or two. Been there done that for longer periods and had no problems. Your CO and propane monitors will likely consume more power then the fridge DSI.
