How to climb to the top of a transmission tower

http://io9.com/5639113/the-scariest-...science?ref=nf

This is scary.

I think I'll stick to changing light bulbs in my home thank you!

I loved it when the narrator said, "This is the hard part..."

Good video!
But that’s not for me, I don’t like heights.

Wow I can finally relax!! That's crazy. So my middle son wants to do this "type" of work. He is in the process of being a high tension wire worker. They climb the big power line lines and inspect and do repairs. But he's young, been to Iraq, jumped out of airplanes and helicopters and now rock climbs. At least for this he would get paid very good money.

I don't know how much they pay those dudes but it ain't enough as far as I'm concerned. I would think a parachute would be required equipment.

I could only watch so much. Then I had to go pee. I shut if off.(not the pee)

Back in 1984 I worked for a communications company. We had one tower that was 750 feet high, and contained land mobile communications antennae. Every once in a while it was necessary to climb it and repair something, or change a corroded connector out. I was the lucky one. I was on the ground as safety watch. No way was I going to climb a 750 foot tower - let alone the one in that video.

Good stuff. I used to climb and service 1400 foot towers in my younger days. You learn a healthy respect for heights and to be very meticulous in what you do. My bride never wanted to know I was on a tower till I came home that night.

I'm not particularly afraid of heights and enjoy being on top of "tall" things, but that video had some spots that were crotch-tightening.
I think I'll pass on that job, although the view was great - especially of the thunderstorm!!!!!

Made my arms feel weak just thinking of having to hold on to those ladder rungs.

Holding on to the rungs is easy, it is the letting go that is hard.
