Hey Petmoose, Alaska? That's a long trip from Denton. We just did 16 days in May there with an attached cruise. Took over 2000 pix. Thought it would be one of those "once in a lifetime" trips but we're planning another flyin in late August 2021. Started looking at the map for future RV trips there. Wow! Good way to rack up some fuel usage. Fairbanks shows 4,000 miles - 66 hrs and I'm pretty sure that we can add at least 30% to that time turning the wheels.

I had evidence of two factory seals beginning to leak with less than 5,000 miles on the camper. One of the bearings had noticeable scoring but not bad enough to replace. Did all 4 bearing sets and races (Timkin). Just under $200 for the full banana.

We left May 26 and returned September 23. I think we were on all the major paved roads except the one between North Pole and Tok. Put about 15,000 miles on and plan to go again !!! Great place to visit, fish, and just have a great time. The drive is worth it because you have complete flexibility of where and when you go. Had no trouble getting a reservation for a campsite but would still encourage that you call ahead if you know where and when you want to go in specific areas. The caravans are the only real space hogs for campgrounds. If you like to fish look at the salmon run times. If you need more details let me know and I am happy to share what we found. You can reach me at donalddeckard@gmail.com.

We buy several hundred sets of bearings a year. Several years ago they were Timken. They would be out of stock sometimes for weeks or a month or more. The factory was sold to Toyo. I thought, oh no. Now they are never out of stock and we can order them without grease. Which we couldn’t do with Timken. They are still American made in the same factory in NC.

A lot of the Timkens are made in China along with other countries. I wonder where your bearings were made.

Several years ago we had spindle bearings replaced in a CNC lathe. The grease was $5,000 per pound. That is not a misprint. Thank goodness these high grade bearings don’t need much grease.

Don’t know where mine were made but I want to look at them when I change the other 3 sets out. I have always heard that Timkin is a good bearing to use. Is this your experience or is there a better brand ? I am less concerned about the cost if it is a better bearing I am happy to pay for it, especially after the experience I just went through.

Timken is a fine bearing no matter where it is made.

Where does one find USA Timken made bearings?
I don't recall seeing any source info on the bearings I've bought from E-Trailer.

My 2018 3920 had to have new bearings. None of them were installed correctly. Pit new ones on when I got the trailer aligned. Along with the brakes, adjusted 2 of them were adjusted to tight I had hotspots, guess I still have them...

Just don't order brake rotors or drums from there. The shipping will kill ya.

Definitely check the torque on the u-bolts holding the springs! I converted my 5er to disc brakes a couple of months ago and in doing a full suspension inspection, I found the springs had wiggled out of line. So that begs the question why, less than 30 pounds of torque on the u-bolts. Dexter says the torque should be, I believe, 45-70 ft. lbs. Check on Dexter's website to be sure. It is a bit different between the 1/2" and the 9/16" obviously. I tapped my springs back into column and torqued them to 55 lbs. back and forth of course to get it equal. I also had a wet bolt cracked and bent through the middle of the grease hole. All the bushings were basically GONE, some remnants were left. So now I have all new wet bolts, bushings, disc brakes with bearings! Pulls about the same, but the breaking is MARVELOUS! BTW I also spray the springs with Amsoil HD spray lube occasionally.
