Safety Warning - DON'T BELIVE THE LABEL

First I have to say thanks Bingo. I had posted that my 2007 3400RL had wheels that were labeled 3750lbs @110psi. Bingo posted back - "You may want to confirm the sticker with Tredit. That was their first engineering fix for the weight ratings, then they decided that the stickers were void. The only way to confirm is to call them!"

So I emailed both Tredit and Keystone customer service, because I wanted it all to be in writing. Ya see, I just purchased tire rated for 3750 lbs at 110 psi. Below is the email trail and the run around I received. I am posting this so that others out there who have wheels with these labels don't think they can put tires rated to 3750 and pressure them up to 110 psi:

Mr. Cotner,

Just to keep you in the loop on our request for information on the rating of our OEM wheels on our 2007 Montana 3400RL. We have decided to take Tredit’s offer for new wheels rated to the 3750lbs of our new tires. I still feel that the information on the OEM Tredit wheels rated and stamped for 3580lbs @ 85psi but labeled 3750lbs @110psi needs to be put out on the Keystone Recalls and Notifications page.

Good morning Mr. Swope,
I have gone to my brain trust on this one and I have a little clarification.
The wheel that you have is not a T03 wheel. This wheel was an exclusive wheel that was manufactured for the Keystone Montana product line around the early 2000s. The wheel was road tested for the original stamping on the wheel and then we believe that it was rerated hence the stickers that are attached to the backside of the wheel. Then long after the wheel was no longer in production, there was a question as to whether this was valid information. Unfortunately, as luck would have it, the Enkei Aluminum factory in China had closed down. This of course as you can imagine still worried the Montana Owners group. So our VP of Sales and Marketing had offered a $65 per wheel deal on any other aluminum 16” 8 lug that was exclusive for the Montana owners.
He was not stating that the OEM wheels were not sufficient but he was offering a solution in “goodwill” that would ease the minds of the group that is arguably the most educated RVers on the road.
This is the deal that stands as of today and what I would like to offer you as well. We have all of the 16” 8 lug available for you to view on our website: www.tredittire.com. All of the 16” 8 lug but for the T03 have the heavy duty weight rating.
If you would like to go ahead and order new wheels you can give me a call at 800-537-2925 x135.

Hopes this helps to clarify. Have a great day!

Mr. Swope,
I must start by apologizing; I am confused as to which wheel you have on your coach. Could you please send me a pic of your wheel so that I may verify which wheel you have on your coach?

Sorry for my mistake,

Ms. Miller,
I do not understand your statement,
“There have been a lot of questions in regards to those wheels. They were rated, rerated and tested several times. Unfortunately, not a single one of those wheels exist to test to failure which is the only way to determine the max weight rating.”
If the T03 wheels were tested and rated “several times” then Tredit must have the data and you should be able to tell me what my wheels are rated for.
I do not feel that I should have to purchase new wheels, as my OEM wheels still are in good condition. What I need is the correct information…either they are rated as labeled 3750lbs @ 110psi, or they only rated at 3580lbs @ 85psi as your website currently shows.
And if my OEM T03 wheels were labeled incorrectly then why wasn’t I contacted by Tredit or Keystone. How many other RV owners are out there like me thinking that the label on the wheel is legitimate and thus they can operate safely within the parameters of the label? If this has not been reported to the manufactures (Keystone) I feel that this is a safety issue and that it is something that should be reported to the NTSB.
Please provide me the rating of the Tredit T03 aluminum wheels that were OEM on my 2007 Keystone Montana 3400RL.
PS: Mr. Cotner from Keystone requested that you contact him about this issue.

Good afternoon Mr. Swope,
I would however like to offer you an exceptional deal on wheels that we currently have in stock and are definitively rated for 3750 @110PSI. You may choose from any wheel on our website in the 16” 8 lug for only $65 each. The only wheel that you would not want to pick would be the T03 wheel as it is rated for 3580lbs.
If you would like to take advantage of this deal please contact Tredit Tire customer service at 800-537-2925.
Thank you and have a great day!

Subject: T03 WHEEL PSI

Tredit:
We own a 2007 Keystone Montana with 7K axels and Tredit T03 aluminum wheels. I just purchased Geostar G574 tires with a load rating of 3750 lbs at 110 psi because of the sticker on your wheels (OEM that came with our Montana 3400RL) that indicate they are rated at 3750 lbs @ 110 psi.
I was just on the Montana Owners Club (MOC) website and posted that I had Tredit wheels with a sticker that said the wheels were rated at 3750 lbs @ 110 psi. One of the people responded that we should confirm the sticker with Tredit, because that was their first engineering fix for the weight ratings then they decided that the stickers were void. Is this true, and our wheels are not rated for what the sticker indicates? If so why didn’t we get notification from you the Manufacture of the wheels, or from Keystone the manufacture of our 5th-wheel? I do not see a recall on the Keystone website about aluminum wheels.
Did I just purchase tires I can’t use? Do I have unsafe wheels that can’t hold the pressure (110 psi) or the weight that the wheels are labeled (3750) for? What are my wheels really rated for? Please respond to this email so I have it in writing so if this comes up again in the future.

You are welcome, the bad thing is that Tredit is just as wishy-washy now about it as they were then. It sounds like they are treating you somewhat fairly and at least you will be riding on something that you don't have to constantly look back at in anticipation of trouble.

It is a shame that this was screwed up then and appears to be no better now, but at least new members with those wheels can now read this thread and understand what they have and what they can do about it if they feel the need. Thanks for all the effort and the post.
