Ya think? Only if it's a video game and then you get to come back to life over and over again.

Just think, at this time, as we each post in this topic, the fighting and sacrificing was still going on 66 years ago.

Any war is terrible as soon as the casual count is above 0. The price of freedom is far above that not only for the Soldier, Marine, Sailor, & Airman that paid the price of themselves, but the loss from their families, their future offspring and potential contributions to the world. The price of freedom is immeasurable, often counted as each fallen veteran but it's much, much higher than that.

Thanks for this topic ARJ.

Not just a day to remember but a day to stop and think of those that served and gave their lives to give us our freedom and those that are serving to protect us now. Just think, if this day did not take place we may all be speaking German and not have the freedom to head for parts unknown with our rigs. In fact, we may not even have the rigs!!
The Peanuts and the Heart of the City comics in the paper today even took time to commemorate this Day in History which I thought was quite a moving thought.

Thanks to those that served and are serving!

Of course we remember I called all of my kids and reminded them also, they were expecting the call. Think of the Commander that had to make the call for that invasion knowing the consequences of that command, and the men who also knew those consequences following that order. This is absolutely why they are called The Greatest Generation.

My father-in-law was a machine gunner at the Bulge and also acted as an interpreter in Patton's 3rd Army.

He is gone now too but his great grand daughter interviewed him for a report she did and I guess she got a lot more information than anyone else ever had. I tried to get a copy of it and she told me she can't find it. The urge to strangle!

Our flag flies 24/7 for him and everyone else who served and is serving.
