Great Weekend Camping

What could go wrong?

The weekend started out great. Got off work early, picked up the oldest grandkid and headed to James Island Co. Park. We got a good site and backed in with no problems and started setting up.
Now so you know we have been camping around 40 years. Tents, Pop Tops, Truck slide-ins travel trailers and now the Montana. We help each other set up, double checking each other.
1) OK we walk around the camper to check the clearances for the slides and awning. DW and Morgan went inside to watch as they moved the slides out. I was watching outside as I got the water and power hooked up. Went around to the front and found that the slide had move the picnic table that was about 3” to close. This bent the lower portion of the slide.
2) That night DW and Morgan were to take showers, but no hot water. I had left the switch outside off when I changed the anode rod earlier. That was an easy fix.
3) When the water was hot they started their showers again. Then I noticed a drip form the shower drain in the basement. Placed pan under leak until the showers were complete. Found that the male adapter had a crack completely around it. Used some epoxy to make a patch.
4) The next day we were riding some trails on the bikes. I turned to look at a noise I heard. The next thing I knew I was headed over the handle bars. I had hit a rut on the side of the trail. Face first in the dirt I went. Bent glasses, skinned both knees, cut finger on one hand, and I think that I broke my pickie on the other. Cleaned up and fixed bike.
5) Tried to bake some bread. That failed also. I guess it was bad yeast.
6) It’s getting good now. Grand daughter noticed that the gray water was full. NO problem. Got the sewer hose out removed the cap and out comes this gush of water. I had left the valve open to the galley tank when I installed the Mircle Probes. Had to call DW to close the valve while I held hand over pipe. Lucky it was not the Black Water.
The finally the worst thing of all. We had to pack up and go home today.

Great Weekend Camping

Even a bad weekend of camping beats a good day in the office (not that I have that problem any more).

Wish I had read this before I talked with you today. I may have had a comment or two. Anyway we had a good laugh at your expense. Tell all at the mill I said hey.

That sounds like a weekend you won’t soon forget. Good story really enjoyed reading it!

I remember once when I was backing into a site to use the sewer for dumping our tanks (on S.O.B.) we once had; the D/W was in back trying to tell me to stop but the vibration from her vocal chords didn’t make it to my receptors. When I came to a smooth stop I had repositioned a picnic table in the same direction as I was backing by about three feet. It came to a rest just inches from a water line. Had I kept backing I would have made the evening an event to remember.

Such things we do while camping can later be called experience.
