Don't wax Decals, so we have been told

Have had a few RV's and use the Wash & Wax for RV's (Pink Solution). We also use stuff for the black streaks. One thing our RV Dealer told us NOT to do is to wax over the decals because the wax may eventually lift the decals and it will look a mess once the decals begin to curl..... and costly to replace. As a matter of fact, we have friends who are replacing their decals on their three year old Montana due to waxing over the decals and using other cleaners that should not have gone on these decals.
Well, we thought this advise would be taken and do not use the wax on or too close to decals.

We've been waxing ours, no problem. Sometimes dealers don't know everything!
Happy trails..........................

Well the graphics dealer that installed the Montana graphics on my GMC has a bit different story about the peeling. Hand washing is the best way to clean the graphics but any road grit should be rinsed off before hand washing. Waxes and protectants are not necessary but will do no actual harm. Hi pressure washing and rough pads may do damage.
The peeling is caused by age and quality of the original graphics. Just a few years ago a graphic lasting 4+ years was about average. Today's graphics have improved but do not expect more than maybe 6 years.
Also note that graphic peeling is an RV industry problem and in no way related to just Keystone rigs. I have personally seen KZs, Cedar Creeks, Dutchmans and even a few of the 1/2 million dollar motor homes with shrinking or peeling graphics.

BTW-The graphics installed on my GMC are EXACTLY the same as the graphics on our new Monty as my graphics came direct from Montana the same month my Monty came off line.

Geez, I've been waxing my decals on both my tv and our Montana for three years now, putting at least one coat each year. I look for the decals on the front cap to come off first with all the scrubbing of bugs. Front cap is the hardest to keep clean.

I found that if you don't wax the front for sure you will scrub off the decal from the love bugs as ours was black last june when we left and in oct on the return if no wax you have to realy scrub bad

A related question. Last fall I cleaned the bugs and road grime off our Monty. I appears that I used "too much elbow grease", now I have some dull spots in the Gelcoat finish. What should I do? Will wax restore the finish?

The front and rear cap are not gel-coated. I buffed mine with a buffing compound then waxed.

For over seven years we've been washing and waxing our Montana and we've yet to see any graphics curling. I'm of the opinion that those who say that you shouldn't wax the graphics are just trying to CYA to cover the fact that bad graphics are being supplied.

DONnANNIE,
This happened to us as well. Ours was actually due to the loss of the clear coat in spots. It gave it a dull look as you describe. I posted about it and a couple of people came back with simular responses. I noted that we all had '03 Models. Made me think the Factory had some issues when they painted them. Yours wouldn't happen to be an '03 would it?
All my efforts would not bring it back, with the exception of removing the entire clear coat with compound and then waxing. I did about a 2'x2' area and it looked quite good, but what a lot of work doing it by hand.
We told our Dealer about the problem when returning to AZ after our Summer "escape the heat" trip. He wanted to have a look and called Keystone for approval to repaint. They sent our Rig out to an RV body shop and had it striped and repainted with Automotive paint with built in Clear Coat like you find on todays Autos. Beautiful job.
Had they not stepped up and done this I would have continued the compound and wax plan.

Wish you well,
