LT Tires vs ST Tires

In case you do not read the open roads forum, there is a post with this link to an interesting bit about LT vs ST tires.

So, looks like Good Year has the only tire with the capacity to carry our heavier Montanas?????

Many states like mine (Colorado) have speed limets for towing at 75 mph I-15 in Utah has some sections at an 80 mph limit. ST tires are limited to a max of 65 mph, hard to figure how the tire companies can get away with that.

Which is why I never drive over 60mph, until I can get off these Marathons.

I was convinced. When I picked up the trailer I went to Discount Tire and had five Michelin XPS Ribs installed. Now I feel better about the tires. I now have 5 Goodyear Marathon tires with 10 miles on them to get rid of.

Wait a minute... What has been used for 7,000 lb axles up until now? I recall 7K axles have been available on Montys since late 2006. Most Load Range E tires, handle only 3,420 lbs or less, which is less than the 3,500 lbs each of the axle wheels are rated to carry. What sizes, ratings and types have folks been using on their 7,000 lb axles up to now?

At least the GY G614 is now being used (which is an ST with an LT designation), but what about prior to this? I hope you 7K axle owners post what you've been using. I'm thinking this is still on-topic, since it could be LTs or STs, but at what rating for a 7K axle?

We have been running 14 ply G-rated tires since we purchased our first Montana in 2006 on ALCOA aluminum rims with steel valve stems. When we purchased our Big Sky in 2008, part of the deal was to have the new E rated tires (and Tredit rims) swapped for our used G-rated tires (and ALCOA rims). We are currently running Gladiator QR25-TS 235/85 R16's after 5 years of running the old ones. They run about $225 per tire and in our experience we have have had no issues. Yes, they are from China, but in full-timing use,

Two trailers, 4 tires, 5 years, 30k miles, 0 blowouts - priceless!

We put our current set on in April of this year and our first set was put on in early 2006. We run them at 105 PSI.
