Smell when dumping your black tank.

When I first dumped my black tank,I would get oders inside my unit.
I found that you need to close your gray and galley tanks befor dumping. No bad smells inside now

You gotit!!! If you open all of them at once, you WILL get odors inside, because the odors of the black tank will creep up the empty lines from the galley sink and grey tanks before you shut them.JMO

Am curious as to how this can happen. There is an "S" trap on both the galley sink and the bathroom shower and wash basin. The "S" trap, from my knowledge of house plumbing, prevents odors from backing up into the house. If they weren't there you'd have all kinds of stale food odors from the kitchen galley tank feeding up into the rig.

We've never encountered the odors you are talking about. Is it because our rig is so much "older" than the ones being reported?

I also run some water into both gray tanks and dump it after closing the black valve to flush anything left in the pipes.

I also take a 5 gallon bucket of water and dump it in the comode two times after the big dump. This will help get some of hte bottom gunk out. After you empty that out then put about 5 gallons back into the tank with your chemicals. This has helped with the odor and buildup on my tank.

Orv, I don'tknow how it happens, but I also have ntoiced it, and that is the only explanation I have, that somehow if you open all tanks at the same time there is a "mising that takes palce, causing the odiferous results. It is sometimes obnoxious
