Flag poles

Hi
We would like some information from race goers that have flag poles. We are looking to get one and want to know the pros and cons.
What are the best kind, fiber glass? and where is the best mounting place? What about the one that goes under the tire?
Thanks Ann & Ron From the Wi. country

Welcome Ronald to the MOC,

I have seen the type you park a tire on but they don't work to well with a 5th wheel. Most 5ers have either a slide or the awning interfering with parking on it. For a 5er they also get a Tripod for under the king pin and than place a leg of the Tripod on it. I've seen a number of these and it worked great. As a matter of fact I do believe one of our MOCers used just such a set up at the National rally last September.

Glenn I don't know if I was the one you were referring to but I use mine that way. With my other fifth wheel I didn't have the awning all the way up on the right side so I put it under the front landing gear. With my 3295 I put it under my pin box support. I don't have any pictures of it I don't think. And the trailer is not here.

I do have one picture without the flags on them. If you go to my photo albums and go to the Montana Rally 2004 the 3rd picture shows it a lit bit.

My flag pole is 22 feet tall, fiber glass, and colapsable into it's'self to 4 feet tall. We got it at the RV show at Quortsite last year. it mounts to the top rung of the ladderat where it conects to the trailer for more stringth, so that will make it about 32 feet to the top. I use a standard flag a light one though thats a lot of surface area, and heavy material creates more presures, it has been up in winds at Glamis and it gets prity windy there the whole kit witheverything was about 74.00. we like the fiber glass over the alumiun, I had one of those too.

We went the other direction. I made a holder out of PVC pipe (14") and clamped it on our rear ladder. I carry a 4x5ft American flag that is supported by a 6' pole that comes apart for storage behind the divan. All i have to do is climb the ladder and stick it in the holder that is clamped to the ladder all of the time. It was on our 2003 Montana at the Rally. I just transfered it to our new Montana.

And, the picture on the left, with the NYS flag under the American flag is ours :-)

We used the under-tire stand and placed it under one leg of the bipod. On grass, I also put a short board underneath the flag stand to keep it steady. Jen picked up the aluminum 24 foot flagpole and stand at the NYS fair. I know it was around a hundred, with the flag and under-tire stand.

I never thought of putting the stand under the front jacks like ronstan, but I like it...I have to look and see if there is enough clearance on our rig.

I use the under wheel holder for the 20' pole and use the ladder mount on the back. Both were bought from Camping World. Put a 2x8 on top of wheel mount and also drive a few stakes on the side of it to keep it from moving in a strong wind.
