Impact Wrench
Just a note to all. Several months ago at a travel plaza I found an 12 volt impact wrench. It has an 18ft cord and plugs into cigaret lighter or assesory plug or clips to battery. Has 6in extention and 4 sockets. The price was 39.95 +tax.
Sure came in handy to change tv tire since the tire shop used impact to mount tires. Sure beats straining with 4 way.

Owen, did the wrench loosen the lug nuts, or did you have to loosen first by 4 way? And did you torque the lug nuts after? Just curious as to how powerful a 12 volt impact would be. I know nothing about them, but people have been mentioning here that other tools (like air compressors) have more power with AC plugins/inverter than 12 volt. I would really like to get one of these myself. Thanks.

That is incredible if a 12 volt impact gun can loosen fasteners tightened to 120 foot pounds of torque. The only battery ones I have seen are just capable of fairly low torque values.
We are watching the development of battey impact guns very closely in my trade as the 110 volt electric ones have come a long way in the last few years. I have a fairly small Ingersoll Rand
1/2" drive air impact that removes fasteners with up to 590 foot pounds of torque and tightens to 450 ft lb . Pretty incredible in a 1/2 inch drive gun. On vehicle rims I only use my 110 electric impact to remove the wheel nuts and run them on to just snug. Then I use my torque wrench in the proper sequence to finish tightening the nuts. All the better tire shops are now doing this .
What brand name is your 12 volt impact gun, Thanks. Don

I would be interested in learning more about these electric impact wrenches too. After reading this topic it occured to me that I should experiment with my air tools and my new portable compressor. I realize that the little one won't provide the air volume that my Ingersol Rand compressor in the shop does, but it should do OK with an air ratchet and perhaps a small impact wrench.
Of course I should be careful not to get too carried away with that. I go camping to relax. If I bring the garage with me I will be doing little of that. (LOL)
